The Best Film Ever, by searchandrescue on Jan 26, 2016 10:39:48 GMT 1, Melancholia Certainly not your average disaster film. Watched it last night on Sky arts. Can't stop thinking about it. Melancholia is brilliant, at first your like is this for real?? A film about a planet blowing up? Then it dawns on you. Amazing.

The Best Film Ever, by searchandrescue on Jan 26, 2016 10:48:43 GMT 1, Disappointed with THE REVENANT. Lots of suffering and some strong, bloody set pieces. But way too long, especially in a ponderous second quarter plus far too many low angle shots of trees, mystical native Americans and symbolic Leo re-births out of all manner of cocoons. hhmmh, weird, really thought H8 was gonna be the worse between the two. Thanks hubblebubble, but will still check out the rev. SAR

The Best Film Ever, by searchandrescue on Jan 26, 2016 10:53:56 GMT 1, Just watched Ichi the killer again recently, disturbing movie, in parts brilliant. Is Tetsuo worth a flutter?? Tesuo is worth watching as it's said by some to be the fore runner to Terminater. Humans get taken over by machines. It's weird anyway Thanks Ploppoi, does tetsuo exist on dvd or is it just swirling around on the net? Will def. watch. Remember as a kid thinking that terminator was my generations kinda cold war, a horrifying future where human / machine organisms ruled the world! Awesome! Terminator, as I understand it was more like a horror film, the horror was the fact that he was part man part machine?? Bits like the terminator cutting out his broken eye were, well, an eye opener!!!

(Maybe that's as good a reason as any to watch it now?)

The Best Film Ever, by Coach on Jan 26, 2016 10:59:22 GMT 1, Watched The Hateful Eight last night at leicester square, awesome, can't believe I was gonna swerve this for the revenant. ย Appreciate a live read through would be cool to see but it blew me away in cinema. ย I guess that's what it is, a reappraisal of how we experience film, more akin to a silent \ talkies experience at the beginning of cinemas history. ย Mind blowing, a stage play more than going to the cinema. ย If you have ANY chance to catch it in 70mm then I beseech you, do so. ย Much of the criticism of length, subject, violence, etc is totally missing the point, this is about the magic of film theatre and the power of celluloid to paint a picture.
That's whet my appetite.

The Best Film Ever, by searchandrescue on Jan 26, 2016 11:02:22 GMT 1, i watched the big short the other day good movie Saw this a few weeks ago and loved it (kind of a cleaned up and more financially focused Wolf Of Wall Street)! We walked out a bit shaken as the housing market in SoCal today feels pretty similar to 2007 (crazy price increases, bidding wars, remodeling, etc.). I realize loan practices are a bit stricter now, but the last two weeks of market drops have me wondering if we are due for another housing adjustment as well (especially if rates escalate...which seems like a no brainer). cardiff before crimbo I was about 50/50 on a big drop, didn't think we'd get to the new year without one. Then ..kaboom, January and the stuff out of china. I think 2016 is going to be bad news for lots of people, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was downward and sustained for a few years.

Similarities in the industrial machine like music and Terminator too. Maybe some influence there and also films like Matrix based on Japanese Manga, Ghost in the machine etc.

The Best Film Ever, by searchandrescue on Jan 26, 2016 15:45:51 GMT 1, yeah, that kind of "wavering" synth / lonely electronica type of music is just awesome, probably underpinning a lot of what is going on in young people's music right now?/ Haven't seen Ghost in the Machine but will watch in due course. Thanks sar

Sorry for forgetting, not sure where you are so perhaps no "70mm Roadshow"?? and all the incumbent bells n' whistles, but treat yourself coach to seeing this from the comfort of a decent cinema seat. Think it has a much broader appeal to fans of true / vintage cinema than just the latest blockbuster and will without doubt withstand comparisons with some of the greatest cinema experiences of all time.

Thanks sar. I have no idea what a 70mm is. It's sounds like a tiny screen! 7 cm?! But I shall certainly go and report back.

The Best Film Ever, by Hubble Bubble on Jan 27, 2016 13:43:36 GMT 1, Loved 'Room' - great performances from female lead and young lad lead. Touching and non-sensationalist. Highly Recommended.
Really enjoyed 'Joy' - huge central performance from Jennifer Lawrence and tight 'Scorcese-ish' direction from Russell.
Loved 'The Big Short' - Bewilderingly Brilliant
Enjoyed 'Creed' - mainly for Sly's supporting role which carries the whole film but also good performances from the two young leads. Nothing we've not seen before in a boxing movie though and a very odd finale at Goodison Park (I kid you not)
'Revenant' reviewed earlier
More Oscar stuff as I see 'em

The Best Film Ever, by Hubble Bubble on Feb 4, 2016 1:25:12 GMT 1, They're making a sequel to Now You See Me...
Anyway...
Can't share the love for HATEFUL 8 I'm afraid. Thought if one of QT's weaker movies. Especially think his trademark dialogue lacked sparkle and it irritated me to see Tim Roth in a role plainly crated for Cristoph Waltz.
Saw 13 HOURS tonight and really enjoyed it. Very much a retelling of The Alamo, Zulu, Assault on Precinct 13 etc but exciting and well realised.
Also watched a decent little indie on Netflix called FRUITVALE STATION after seeing Creed. It was the director's first movie. Very good with excellent performances from the young cast.

The Best Film Ever, by globalplanb on Feb 5, 2016 2:10:32 GMT 1, Stumbled across an interesting documentary exploring the function of the human brain and its relation to self. The doc "The Brain with David Eagleman" (series1-6) BBC4@9:00 was already on its 3rd episode, so watched that then dugout 1&2 well worth a hour each in my book.
