Heavy frame on platerboard wall: advice, by ozychilds on Jan 22, 2010 11:29:57 GMT 1, I've got a huge, heavy framed piece that I want to hang. Unfortunately all my free walls are plasterboard.
Any advice on how to hang? Up until now I've just hammered little plastic hooks into the wall and hung with wire for smaller pieces, but that is no way going to be sufficient. I think I need to afix picture plates to the actual (wooden) frame and use some kind of special platerboard 'thingys'. As you can see, I have no idea what i'm doing.
Apologies if this has been asked before.

Heavy frame on platerboard wall: advice, by sand on Jan 22, 2010 11:41:02 GMT 1, I use 'hollow-wall anchors'. They're available from all the usual DIY stores.
I use two of them for larger pieces and have never had a problem.

Heavy frame on platerboard wall: advice, by Karl Read on Jan 22, 2010 11:41:08 GMT 1, Iv got the same issue. You have to drill the right size hole with a drill about 5/6 mill. Drill past the plasterboard in to the mortar or brick. Then put in a wall plug and fix in a screw, then hang. It's worked for me.

That's all well and good but if they're internal partition walls there is no solid material to drill into.
You can buy self screwing rawplugs with screws designed for plasterboard - it holds my bathroom cabinet up fine and that's heavy!

Measure twice, drill once! Get a spirit level, a tape measure and decent drill and you'll be fine. This coming from someone with zero DIY ability and even I managed it ;D
