HUSH SHOW - Carmichael Gallery - 5th March, by deepdownboy on Feb 28, 2009 11:53:54 GMT 1, Hick I understand exactly in what you are saying and I can only give my feelings so here goes. I'm a person that likes many forms of art & music from Beryl Cook ( I still think her sabotage is a hilariouis piece) to Leroy Nieman so as you can see pretty diverse. When I see a Hush piece ( I have 6 now ) I see exactly what you said "15 year old hormone led boys" and at 53 it makes me smile and I enjoy it, plus I love colour and of course Hush has that.
I don't really like political art as politics depress's me I like things to be fun and creative easy on the eye but with substance to make you think, and Hush does that to me. I also have 5 Will Barras prints as well so as I said pretty diverse.
Art after all is a personnel thing and I would never knock anyone for liking a particular artist or a particular set of prints that's what makes it fun, in my opinion anyway.
Deepdown boy

HUSH SHOW - Carmichael Gallery - 5th March, by kristakis on Feb 28, 2009 14:12:20 GMT 1, Agree Hush's work is getting more and more incredible! The aesthetic beauty and technical qualities are plenty for me but there is more if you dig a little deaper - as with all contemporary art its all subjective so it can only be a good thing to post such ignorance! keep up the good work

and yes the post was ignorant - not necessary saying that you are!

hmmmm, why was my post ignorant ? I am asking for opinions from fans of the man as to why people go gaga over them.
to me there is nothing there other than a cute manga girl over a slightly urban background, I dont see any deep meaning hense why I am asking one of you lot to explain it to me so i can try and grasp a better understanding ?
someone replied to me saying they love his work cause it is pretty ...fair enough, you are saying there is a deeper meaning so i am asking for an explanation . capiche?

HUSH SHOW - Carmichael Gallery - 5th March, by kristakis on Feb 28, 2009 15:07:20 GMT 1, maybe ud get a better respone if u didnt call people '15 year old hormone led boys' and didnt take everything at face value.
my feeling is that his use of these cute characters is no different from how artists have portraid women and eroticism for centuries - its simply a modern form of it.. notice how he juxtaposes pieces like destiny and butterfly girl - he challenges that porn, girls, internet, violence etc are no different
capiche?
