Over your shoulder, by Danny O'Connor on Jan 22, 2009 17:17:42 GMT 1, This piece is called 'Over Your Shoulder' 100x50cm Had a bit of fun stylizing this almost to the point of abstraction. I'm not sure whether to keep working into it a bit more. I was thinking maybe hinting at a shoulder on the right hand side where the white space is, and maybe a little bit of yellow to lift some areas. But as yet I'm still undecided so any opinions are welcome, cheers!

Over your shoulder, by hlarmy on Jan 22, 2009 17:35:47 GMT 1, Love it Danny; I love the way your portraits are becoming more distorted and abstract. The only thing I wasn't sure on was the white 'squiggle' in the bottom left of the painting - it just stands out to me and looks messy when the rest of the piece is quite clean (if that makes sense ).

Over your shoulder, by Dellboyy on Jan 22, 2009 17:41:09 GMT 1, Looking pretty funky! Again, like the abstract look to it!
Have to say i didn't notice the squiggle until mentioned. I quite like the gap at the bottom right, but for me there seems to be a little something missing from the right hand side of the face. Couldn't tell you what though!

Sorry, I'm drawing people attention away from the beauty of the piece
Is he missing an eye - I presume it's intentional and adds a bit of mystery. I hadn't noticed until Dellboy mentioned it

Over your shoulder, by Danny O'Connor on Jan 22, 2009 17:51:25 GMT 1, Thanks for the comments fellas, this is exactly the type of suggestions I was looking for. I went pretty abstract on this as I've done a few more slightly realistic pieces lately and needed to go a bit nuts on the old stylization.
Anyway keep the comments coming!

He did have a second eye when I sketched it on the canvas but I painted over it almost to suggest it was completely shaded out. But I'm thinking maybe of adding something on that side seeing it on screen now.

Over your shoulder, by angel41 on Jan 22, 2009 17:58:00 GMT 1, Quality piece D! Really like it.
The only thing I would suggest is maybe a bit of the eye on the right should be showing?
Still love it though. Don't do too much to it. Love the simplicity of this one.

Over your shoulder, by Joseph Loughborough on Jan 22, 2009 18:43:43 GMT 1, beautiful work as usual doc! i would be tempted to fill the space on the right with your white/cream background to give a semi profile look to it! but not sure what you would do with the chin then?! but then i have been known to over work things! eeek!

Over your shoulder, by Agent Provocateur on Jan 22, 2009 20:42:04 GMT 1, Doc, nice work. Really like the cleaner feel... and just to add my two penneth worth, I quite like the empty bottom right and lack of eye on the right as well. Imo it focuses the attention on the features of the face that are at the front (possibly a bit like the depth of field you get in a photograph). It's also a good balance, allowing the main detailed area to stand out. Hope that makes sense...

Thanx AP! I hear what your saying mate, I think I'm gonna add a little hint of an eye, yet not too much as to deter from the more detailed areas as you say.
Cheers again to all who have passed comment they are much appreciated. Working on my bill means I only have the missus opinion and she doesn't really give a shit! So thank god for the forum
