no not really but I can see how you would mistakenly be drawn to that conclusion. Greg outside work tends to be mural based as opposed to graffiti or street work
I think what Greg does is called "copying"

New greg Gossel Print Up, by alexnh123 on May 25, 2010 9:46:12 GMT 1, interesting because in his own right Greg's work would be good. ie, if we didn't know any better (have Faile) then his work would be the best in his field. he's always going to be shadowed by them which makes me wonder why he does it. Saying that; no Faile and GG piece are ever going to be the same, in theory if you like faile then you should like GG, it's your own stubborness that stops you from enjoying it, but side by side you might prefer the content of one image over another. it would be interesting to see GG and Faile exhibit together, with no note of whos works were whos, and see which works people preferred! If you picked a mixture then you could argue he's good enough (though not original) and if you could tell them apart then that would suggest he does have his own style.

New greg Gossel Print Up, by jon11 on May 25, 2010 10:53:51 GMT 1, does that mean all stencil artists are written off as copying banksy- or blek or whoever we deem first or best? -
personally i do kind of think so - they all seem like pretty lame inspired attempts to cotton on to someone elses success - and it is just never the same - all way too contrived, try hard...

New greg Gossel Print Up, by geoffw on May 25, 2010 11:01:42 GMT 1, That's taking a straw man to breaking point. You think Lucamaleonte's work looks like Bansky or Blek? That's stencil-based but nothing like their work.
Bad stencil artists who clearly want to emulate those artists may well look similar but to say all stencil art looks like a derivative of their work is too simplistic.

New greg Gossel Print Up, by Gentle Mental on May 25, 2010 11:32:09 GMT 1, it's about 25 times poorer than a faile of similar ed size/color - hence it's about 25 times cheaper...
so it's ok.

for the purposes of discussion; could you point out the aspects that make it 25 times poorer. I'm niether supporting nor condoning Greg's work btw.

it would be more interesting for him to be a realist painter who is doing drawings of failes work.. i would admire this persona.

AM: While I donโt take chat room bickering and pigeon-holing seriously, you have been referred to as โthe poor manโs Faileโ, what are your thoughts on this comparison and on artistic influences in general?
GG: Yeah, to be honest, thatโs something that definitely bothered me when I initially heard things like that, but these days I really try not to pay too much attention to a lot of that stuff. Those guys do great work and have been very successful with a really recognizable style. I understand that there are some obvious stylistic similarities between their work and my own, so I see how the comparison is made. I think itโs human nature to make comparisons, whether it be art, music, or anything else. Iโm the same way when listening to an album, or checking out a new artist, so I think it just kind of comes with the territory that if youโre creating work and putting yourself out there, youโre always subject to those types of comparisons and criticisms. There are some people out there who spend a bit of time online checking out my work, and would rather label me as some sort of imitation of Faile, rather than take the time to learn much about my past work or how I got to where I am today. But ultimately, I know that my own work will continue to change and evolve over time as it has over the past 5 years, so I really just try to stay focused on continuing in my own direction, and not worry too much about some of the negativity and criticisms that are floating around out there.

it's entirely personal.
if i have this on my wall, i suspect i'll smile 25 times less than i would if i have a "similar" faile up over the course of having the piece up
my pupils will dilate 25 times less.
my brain will secrete 25 times less endorphine
BUT! my wallet will have 25 times more money.
until scientifically proven wrong...
this is so.
