!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on Apr 21, 2008 17:46:32 GMT 1, From Tuesday the 6th of May 2008 the Cut The Mustard Gallery in Bristol will be hosting an urban art exhibition called !MAYDAY!MAYDAY! We will be featuring work by some of the leading street and urban artists in the UK including original works and prints by Banksy, Nick Walker, Ian Francis, DAN, Mau Mau, Guy Denning, Paul Insect and Dylan Shipley.
The most exciting work on display will be some extremely rare street pieces that we believe to be by Banksy. Due to Banksy and his agent's stance on authentification of his street art work (they have a blanket ban on authenticating any of his street art, which is understandable due to the nature of his work) we are not legally allowed to state the work is actually by him. However, the works we will have on display are featured in his Wall and Piece and Home Sweet Home books. All of the pieces were found by local people and were about to be destroyed. Though we know some street art purists believe that work of this nature should be left to their destiny we believe that they are important works of art that should be saved where possible. This is why we have agreed to show the works. If we didn't they would have been lost forever!
Alongside the above pieces we will have a variety of signed and unsigned, limited edition prints and artist's proofs by the artists named above, with full authentification. These prints are NOT new releases but re-sales of edition that have sold out.
It's an exciting and interesting body of work and it will be refreshing to bring some of these artists away from the slick, upmarket galleries of London and back to Bristol where many of these top artists come from. Our gallery is a relaxed and informal space and perfect for an urban art show.
!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! will be open daily (except Sunday) from the 6th of May from 9.30am to 5pm. If you would like a press pass to attend the 8.30-9.30am preview on the 6th please let us know in advance. We also have a list of the items we will be exhibiting with guide prices which can also be emailed to you in advance. Please PM your email address if you need this information.

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on Apr 22, 2008 14:11:55 GMT 1, Yeah , thanks mrmustard for that detailed explanation !! i say again , i assume there are No artists involved and no new work .. care enough to clarify ? Both DAN and Dylan Shipley are showing new work and are involved in the show. I see you are an artist yourself, you are welcome to submit some pieces.
I am also a full time, professional artists (though not a street artist) and the gallery started as a place for me to show my work and also work by other local, up and coming artists. We are not some big corporate gallery that is interested in greed or explotation, we have decided to do this show as so many people that come in to visit us have requested they would like to see some more street/urban art along side the artists we already display.
I knew the show would cause some controversy. Many thanks to all many people that have PM'ed support. It's appreciated.
Can I finally add that unless you can prove you are from a newspaper, magazine, TV station i'm afraid you will not be able to obtain a press pass. The PV is simply for the press to have some space to view (as the gallery is tiny) but there won't be any sales until the doors open to the public at 9.30am.
Also need to add that a proportion of the money raised will be going to: www.temwa.org.uk/

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on Apr 22, 2008 15:45:15 GMT 1, Thanks for clarifying that ... I really like DAN stuff .. saw one of his on a hoarding on Jamaica street ... Cracking piece of work and that mr Dylan can paint a mean mural thats for sure ! When i am next in Bristol i shall come and have a look Please do, would be good to meet you. See more of Dylan's work at www.ds-murals.com/Art%20gallery.html Agreed his murals are cracking but his sketchbooks and canvases are mind blwing too. Some serious talent there.
DAN is a resident artist at my place and his canvases are some of the most intricate stencil work I have ever seen.

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by youreds on Apr 30, 2008 7:19:56 GMT 1, You wouldn't by any chance be the same mrmustard that pushed his way to the front of the queue at '12 days', pointed at everything in sight shouting "I'll have that, that, that, that, and that", generally annoying everyone in the process, would you?
When you say 'gallery', isnt 'stall' more appropriate? It is St. Nicks market after all?

This is a very small show in comparison to Not A Penny... but we do have some nice work. Will have some exclusive pre-show pics some time on Monday (fingers crossed).

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on May 3, 2008 20:34:04 GMT 1, P.S I think some people see me as a money grabbing gallery owner but I am actually a full time artist that has a little gallery to show my own work and (in the next week) work by other people. I have posted some of my own work on here now: banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=artwork&thread=18690&page=1
Its not street/urban by the way!
