Agreed. I think the thing to do is give it away as a gift. Did I mention I didn't get anything for Christmas?
If you would like to give it away I can send you my address. Just let me know.

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by Warm Gun on Jan 4, 2011 23:22:25 GMT 1, Beautiful, special print there mate, I love it!
Seems mad (even as I write it) but I'm not sure I'd personally consider buying it though because of the coa problems. It feels wrong and bizarre saying that as the print is magic!.
What a strange obsession with coa's I/we have.

Dont think its strange to not want to be potentially ripped off by thousands personally.
Im not saying this is anyway fake by the way, i just feel the same. Lovely print, maybe some proof of emails or someone at POW to at least confirm over a phone call or email would put more trust in the buyers head. Good Luck with the sale anyway.

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by connecta1 on Jan 4, 2011 23:48:30 GMT 1, ...from POW's/PC's reaction, it doesn't sound like they'd appreciate it being passed on so I'd imagine that any kind of proof, verbal or otherwise might be tricky.
Obvious thing to say, but I guess it just comes down to how much someone likes & will pay for it... interested to see how this one pans out, best of luck with it

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by colinfishwick on Jan 4, 2011 23:50:33 GMT 1, HI, i have decided to sell my prized signed soupcan amazing colourway cherry, yellow, blue as i stated it is a gift print so is not numbered. it was given to me by a friend that worked at pow it is signed banksy05 and is in mint condition it would be a great addition to your collection please pm me with offers and if you would like pics(i have tried posting pics but the file is to big..(dont know how you lot do it )please leave email address shalom. mo
in the past PC have given COA's to the person who was gifted the print but not once it was sold on, if you were given the print legitimately (and i have no reason to doubt that you weren't) then it should not be a problem. alternatively a paper trail/provenance from the person who gifted it to you might help you achieve a reasonable price.
as it stands you have an un-editioned print, essentially a backdoor copy - in spite of the signature. not worthless but relative to the main run, very much so.

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by idris on Jan 4, 2011 23:57:48 GMT 1, PC refused point blank to authenticate any street piece back in 2008 when some auction house were selling street pieces ... I believe they went to Vermin? I mean WTF ... is a cert of authenticity from Vermin really solid provenance? Dunno what happened in the end but (Drewitts) I think said 'we can't see it being a problem coz these street pieces are legit .. innit'!
It's a touch one to call - great print but do you depart with the readies knowing if and when you come to sell it .... you might have problems.
Good luck with the sale mate -

If it's prized to you, don't sell it.
how would banksy feel if he was reading this, i hope you wrote him a nice thankyou letter ;D

Yep agree, see absolutely no reason for a COA if it has full checkable provenance

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by stevieray101 on Jan 5, 2011 12:47:40 GMT 1, not sure if this is possible, but maybe look at selling it to a gallery? if they can be convinced then you might be on to something.
other option is to sell it via an auction house - in both cases the buyer's fears should be put to rest as they are buying it via egit methods.

FS:BANKSY SOUPCAN/GIFT PRINT, by snausages on Jan 5, 2011 14:52:56 GMT 1, I'll swap you an unsigned soup can WITH a coa for a signed soup can without
But that's really poor of them not to authenticate gift prints. Artists give artwork to assistants and helpers all the time as thank you and as a 'tip' for helping them out. Its common and expected that those works might get sold on.

This was what I thought the case was too.
I bought a signed gifted Soup can print from the original buyer and he'd got a COA for it, and since buying it PC have now put it under my name.
And after framing it up it's one of my favourite pieces...
I know it had taken months to get it authenticated despite it being given to the guy i bought it from - i imagine that any prints like this are shown to Banksy to check if he auctually signed them. With a dedication like this it is quite easy for him to check, whereas i guess with just signed gift prints it's hard to verify.
If someone was a dedicated fraudster it would be possible to fake the print of get a back door print and then fake the signature, and then PC might end up autheticating a good fake.
I know this is very unlikely to happen (it would require someone who was given one fairly to then start faking signatures), and i would say on the soup can for sale on this thread it's suggest it's so unlikely that there were fakes of these.
It might be worth contacting the original seller and see if he would be able to get the authentication on your behalf.
Good luck with the sale as it's a great print.

i'm sure someone would pay a couple of grand for a signature, even with a COA it's not an editioned print so IMO will be worth far less than 1 of 10 or an A/P.

It doesn't seem fair that they are selective on which gift prints they give certification for and which they don't.
The Have a Nice Day coming up in Bonhams is a certificated gift print apparently.
