Ahmed Alsoudani has also been mentioned on the forum a few time and someone here has a nice work on paper by him. He's been accepted into the big leagues now it seems. I saw a show by this guy in NY about 3 or 4 years ago. A work on canvas this size would have retailed then for about 60-80k USD. Although of course everything was sold out. You really really have to be on the ball to be on top of these things while still affordable.
WOuld love to have something by him. I asked to have my name put on the list but never heard a word back. He'll probably be signed with a major NY gallery anyway now. Out of my league. Oh well.
Now it's estimated at 200 to 300 thousand British Pounds!

I was not judging her skills about panting but just expressing my personal taste on that piece. I'm sure that she's massively talented but still I don't like THAT at all.
LOL - whaz a matter? You don't like big beautiful women? I'd kill for one of her paintings. She's a real master. But they are a bit dark usually.
ahah, well not really into BBW! ;D better for both, each to their own.

Christies Post War / Contemporary, by angel41 on Feb 10, 2011 20:31:59 GMT 1, I really like Jenny Saville's work, definitely worthy of the price tags but I also would struggle with something like that on my wall. Still a nice little earner though.

Christies Post War / Contemporary, by Coach on Feb 10, 2011 20:37:45 GMT 1, As I have mentioned before, Saville is one of my favorite artists. Hugely talented. I love Lucian Freud's work too, but Saville has his painting skills, but with a twisted edge that is right up my street.
For anyone interested in her work, and since her paintings are I guess now out of reach for most of us (!), I would recommend this book - it's superb - one of the art books that I most return to
www.amazon.co.uk/Jenny-Saville-Simon-Schama/dp/0847827577/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297366591&sr=8-1

Christies Post War / Contemporary, by pezlow on Feb 16, 2011 13:46:16 GMT 1, Strong prices at Sothebys last night. ยฃ7.2 million for a richter abstract! I went to christies viewing yesterday - some amazing stuff. The Glenn Brown painting is stunning, I couldn't take my eyes off it. Also liked the Ged Quinn too and the painting by Ahmed Asouldani, who I wasn't familiar with before. The jenny saville is immense and kinda beautiful in a very ugly way. Loads of texture and detail up close. An awful lot of frankly rather ordinary warhols for mega money. I wouldn't buy them if I had the cash.
Also popped into the white cube to see the G&G exhibition which was quirky, although I can't really make my mind up whether I like it or not. Anyway they are selling signed posters, two varieties, for ยฃ10 a pop and huge signed books for ยฃ40 if any of you like their stuff.

Christies Post War / Contemporary, by lee3 on Feb 16, 2011 17:05:02 GMT 1, Nice Pez. I was a but underwhelmed by the work in the evening sale at Sotheby's as much of it did little for me save for the pair of Auerbach's, the Fontana and admittedly I did like the multi marilyn reversal. What I found most curious was that there was not one single item from Hirst on offer in a mega evening London sale which speaks volumes. I see that a spin painting just did well in the day sale which if I'm not mistaken is the only item of his under the hammer at Sotheby's this go around. Quite a turnaround from 2.5 years ago, granted that was a one time event, but from almost $300MM to less than $300k at that level has to be a first.
To be honest, I'm far more excited to see what Banksy put up in LA overnight as opposed to watching Sotheby's morning and Christie's evening today. That HW seems to have a lot of attention with its estimate range.

True but it's not one swallow, the Sotheby's sale was strong too and there were good results in the October 2010 London auctions.
