Hockney Update, by Rourke on Jan 28, 2011 20:27:29 GMT 1, Evening all
Just I thought I would update you and share the progress of David Hockney Portrait I started a couple of weeks ago. Its going well so far, but its been my hardest venture to date, so hope it carrys on in the same vein. trying a few slightly different techniques on this one. Really going to push the Sculpting with this one. here where I am at.
to be continuedโฆ
I started with a 4ft in depth Chunky pallete. threw sanded and plained a a few area down, to bring out the grain, then threw tea bags at it.
Then I chiseled and split a few bits of wood to wedge into some of the empty slatts.
I have now started to work on the 3d bit by building out the areas with newpaper and wood, starting from his forehead. Its totally mind bending working out how far to come out and which areas to come out more. I have also cut out the glasses, which will be fixed in front of the eyes, when I have finished them, on the bit of wood you can just make out on the photos.
Will keep you updated Cheers and have a good weekend

Hockney Update, by Rourke on Jan 31, 2011 15:24:34 GMT 1, Cheers balibob
The Teaโฆ I do it mainly for adding extra stains, some get covered up but some stay, underlying in the depth of the peice. The tea dribbles into all the nooks and crannys and when dry adds an interesting antiqed effect. I also drip them over at various intervals on creating the work although they have become a bit of an habbit now.
Cheers balibob

Hockney Update, by Rourke on Feb 4, 2011 19:32:40 GMT 1, Evening all
Thought I would update you on the Hockney Portrait. Don't if I mentioned this beforeโฆ Its going to be called 'Local Lad' cos he's a local lad to me, being from Bradford and that. Infact he grew up about 10minutes away from my studio and where I live. He has always been a major influence in my art, from being young. The portrait is made up from the Telegraph & Argus, our Local paper, hence the title of the piece. Still got quite along way to go. Hope you like Cheers

Hockney Update, by profgyro on Feb 10, 2011 22:05:34 GMT 1, So good! Really want to see it finished.
Have you seen Hockney's ipad art? Read somewhere he had this massive pocket sewn into his jacket to keep the ipad in. Cracked me up when I read that. ;D ;D
