Advice and help needed - Steve Kaufman Sinatra, by geminii on Apr 17, 2011 15:03:31 GMT 1, I'm hoping someone with more knowledge than me can help me out here. I picked this up earlier today and have been trying to do some research. It appears he was an assistant to Andy Warhol at the Factory and died last year. This piece was an unsold lot at Bonham's in 2005 and still has its Bonham's Lot number attached - I've googled it and it seems to be exactly what it appears. There's a signature on the back - Steve Kaufman's initials in black felt pen. There's no number and it appears to be hand embellished acrylic on screen printed canvas. Can anyone tell me anything more about it or any idea of its value?

Advice and help needed - Steve Kaufman Sinatra, by geminii on Apr 17, 2011 15:25:13 GMT 1, I don't think I could be that lucky! I paid stupid money for it from a car boot sale... it came from a man who said he was an art dealer in town but dealt with traditional art and didn't like this, which was a gift from a friend. I''ve found the original Bonham's catalogue listing that coincides with the lot number on the sticker and it's definitely the right piece. I think the ones you are looking at are different. It's difficult to get a clear idea of what it's worth and I have to confess I'd never heard of him until this morning.

A different Sinatra from Bonhams last summer (2 Silkscreens for ยฃ313 including premium):

Advice and help needed - Steve Kaufman Sinatra, by Imoy-San on Apr 17, 2011 20:21:31 GMT 1, Hi there, I've got a few Kaufman's and actually knew the artist. I take it that the piece is on canvas and has the "SAK" signature attached to it.
The unique thing about his Sinatra pieces is Kaufman was the only artist to get a nod from the Sinatra Foundation to do a series.
I'd say it was a perfect purchase. Good luck and a nice find. Ping me if you decide to sell it.
Cheers

Advice and help needed - Steve Kaufman Sinatra, by geminii on Apr 17, 2011 23:57:11 GMT 1, I had a trawl on the internet this evening and found a USA dealer who seems to be the main dealer for Steve Kaufman and a personal friend of his. I emailed him a photo and he has replied that there were only 10 of these made and that in the current climate he values it at between 3500-6000 dollars. I've had a little sit down and a large drink...I'll take this with a pinch of salt but still stunned - am now far too embarrassed to ever admit what I actually paid for it!
