Each to their own, but that is the most horrible piece of "art" I have ever seen. To me it says an awful lot about the Turner prize, still I can't expect to like everything
Didn't Banksy stencil "Mind the Crap" on the steps of the Tate the night before the Turner prize winner was due to be announced?

Really! I can't believe you read this forum and that is the most horrible piece of art you've ever seen. Art isn't all about pretty pictures now is it.

Believe it or not it is the most horrible piece of "art" I have seen here IMO, can't even come to call it art without the quotation marks. But as said each to their own as it is all a personal thing anyway, if we all like the same stuff etc.... Just hope you enjoy it as much as I dislike it
The thing is with this though to me is, knowing some of the people who appear on the TV show 'Life of Grime' they come across photos like this regularly during the house clearances, laugh at them and then throw them in the black bags with the rest of the rubbish. Maybe I am missing the point that they laugh at them, but still IMO doesn't make it art.

FS Richard Billingham, by Coach on Apr 24, 2011 16:15:31 GMT 1, I really like what I have seen of Richard Billingham's work. This one for sale is part of a series, featured, amongst other places, in the I Am A Camera book, if memory serves me well. That series is great imo.

FS Richard Billingham, by Coach on Apr 24, 2011 21:00:42 GMT 1, Researched and still cant see this as art Disturbing yes, produce strong feeling yes, art???
That top one is my favorite. There's also one of his dad eating his dinner if memeroy serves. I guess it depends on your definition of art. These definately fit within my definition. As with all art, it's each to his own.

FS Richard Billingham, by speebe on Apr 24, 2011 22:50:24 GMT 1, I think Richard had to do a lot of soul searching with regards to letting Charles Saatchi use these images in the 'Sensations' exhibition... He obviously selected them because they show a harsh reality that is shocking to most of us regardless of class. They are such a brutally shocking set of images but rather sadly these are nothing more than a set of candid(?) family photographs of Richard's family... Albeit a disfunctional one.
Richard wasn't exhibiting these photos, but paintings at the time... However the photo's were some how seen and bought, the rest is history.
Yes they are art, but I honestly believe the images weren't taken with that intention in mind. Although I'm sure his family couldn't give a Sh!t... Good on ya son.
However, his blurred, dream-like landscapes used in the Turner Prize were really nice, like memories of long forgotten summer holiday.
