Foolproof print lottery?, by georgec7 on Jan 6, 2011 1:27:49 GMT 1, Hi - not sure if there is such a thing, however, I'm happy to be shot down on this one. I've been thinking about a fair way to hold an online print lottery for a few years now.
The last Banksy POW release really got me thinking - not that their lottery was unfair - just the fact that a lot of opinion was that the queuing system was a little bit unorganised and wouldn't it have been better if there was a fair lottery etc etc . Feedback was that no lottery is fair - although I think the UK National lottery would argue with that!
So I have an A4 piece of card with 4 points which I've written down in the last half an hour. I think the selling point is that the 'draw' would be public - although as I said, I'm more than happy for this to be shot out of the water etc .
A bit of background - I've been a business analyst for a good 15 years - this means that I look at requirements and try to come up with a documented solution in conjunction with the techie wizkids - that the business users agree to. The wizkids then build it. There's a little bit more to it than than that - but it works most of the time.
So - I have some high level requirements - which in this case, I believe would offer a solution. If anybody is interested in collaborating, I'm happy to share the idea. I don't think it will make a fortune -but it might provide an auditable online lottery solution! I think I'd need a Java or .net developer (online solution) - and I'd be happy to discuss the idea further with like minded people .
I haven't put the solution on here for various reasons - you know what I mean!
Give me a pm if interested.
Cheers George

Foolproof print lottery?, by Francis on Jan 6, 2011 2:38:17 GMT 1, they should have each person write a 500-word essay on why they feel they deserve the chance to buy a print. the best 500 or so entries get to buy it!

Foolproof print lottery?, by Deleted on Jan 6, 2011 7:29:20 GMT 1, "Java or .net developer (online solution)" - Not specifically Java or .Net. These are two of many programming languages. Java is often use to run application (mostly on phone) and any other electronic equipment. Same for .net which is also an advanced programming languages. Any other free languages (such as PHP/ASP) would do, as long as you have a good webdevelopper, then you should be OK.
But don't reinvent the wheel; have a look at this baby born late 2010 - kontestapp.com/ - it has everything you need to run a smooth and professional online contest (custom template/form, social network to run contest on Twitter/FB, mobile support, etc.) and it is used by major companies such as Universal.
If you have some high level requirements, I guess they can provide it easily... but it is not cheap (between 200 and 700 USD) - kontestapp.com/pricing/
Cheers
