Silky Email Newsletter, by Art-el on Oct 20, 2010 21:27:43 GMT 1,
Thanks guys. This could be interesting two votes for an artist that can't even get HIS mega successful 1st solo show mentioned in this forums subjective newsletter. The last four in fact because of Silky's personal beef with me not Dale
Before Daniel starts bleating about it not being his job to promote our shows and artists it's just a travesty he could not support Dale who has been on a rollercoaster of a life and whose work has been so openly embraced on this forum!!
We've demonstrated we can promote our events on numerous occasions but sometimes it's about supporting others with mental illness and thought Silky would empathise more than most after a lengthy and ongoing battle with M.E
Don't be Bitter. Be Better
Peace

Silky Email Newsletter, by Daniel Silk on Oct 20, 2010 21:46:19 GMT 1, Unbelievable!
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I find asking nicely helps or even just asking at all! So I get slagged off for not doing something I was never asked to do, is none of my business, and what I know nothing about.
Never seen this style of doing things before slag people off, then expect them to help you without you even asking, and then slag them off again.
I'm speechless!

Silky Email Newsletter, by manty on Oct 20, 2010 22:00:57 GMT 1, I dont know what the issues are between you both?
From what you have written, I read it to mean that you only include artists events in your news letter where you have been asked to specifically by the gallery or artist?
Seems a shame to have ill feeling over this, maybe its just a communication chink?

Silky Email Newsletter, by Art-el on Oct 20, 2010 22:47:07 GMT 1, That's a downright lie and I have PM's that prove it. You should be ashamed of yourself for such a blatent lie in an attempt to save face.
Hey Silky, just realised that this wasn't mentioned in today's newsletter - bit of an oversight seeing the impact this show has had, with many describing it as one of the best they have been to in a while??? Can I suggest you sack the person / team responsible for the newsletter With them it seems whatever I do is wrong, so for an easy life I keep clear and don't want to get involved.
THEN ON THE SAME THREAD, A THREAD ABOUT VERMINS WORK
Ah, so it was a conscious decision to leave it out. I didn't realize the newsletter was subjective Anywho, none of my business so will move on. It is my newsletter, and gets written and set out by me. If I think an Artist or Gallery doesn't really want me involved with their event I will leave it alone simple as that really. I have plenty of thing to be doing so its best not to spend too much time helping people who don't actually want my help anyway
FOLLOWED BY A GENERAL WARNING AGAIN ON A THREAD ABOUT VERMINS WORK
Can I just send a message out to Artists, Events & Galleries please. Please don't EXPECT to get mentioned in my newsletter emails I don't tell people what they can or cant put in their mail outs, so please don't think you have a right to have a pop at me for not mentioning you in mine. Its other peoples jobs to promote Shows and Events, no mine!
So all artists, events and exhibitions mentioned in the mail out only got mentioned because they asked nicely? Please spare me! Brendan believe me this public airing is not my style as you well know and ultimately reflects on my gallery but I have tried countless times to resolve this by pm to only receive childish responses and that he was washing his hands of us.
I feel Iโve given a lot to the forum over the last 5 years but how I feel at present I think this will be my last post
Utmost respect and sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the gallery and also myself personally with the GDM fundraising which has been both humbling and overwhelming.
Peace & love to you all
Mike & Stef x

I have ZERO Beef with Art-el, simple as that
They seem to have a problem with me as you can see on this thread. They seem to have come to the conclusion that they TELL me what to put in MY email newsletters. Nobody else thinks this, its just them I dunno why, I have no idea where they got that idea from.
Anyway, nobody tells me what to put in my emails, just as I would never expect to tell anyone else what to put in there's
I have no problem I'm happy!

Silky. Unlike yourself I will answer your question.
Plain & Simply we don't EXPECT anything from you and never asked or TOLD you to do anything. Stop being such a victim.
Perhaps you could return the favour and answer why you have omitted this show from your last 3 or 4 mailouts when people have talked about it as the ''best show of the year'' and some their ''best ever''?
The fact that you moved it to the main board and disgracefully titled it ''Art-el Newsletter rant'' which is also baffling but very indicitive of your MO.
As one of the most well respected members of this forum then I think Ross's comment sums up the state of play perfectly
Thanks to everyone for their pm's and emails of support

Silky Email Newsletter, by hlarmy on Oct 21, 2010 7:37:41 GMT 1, Silky, I don't usually get involved with the slanging matches on here, but as I have been quoted in the heart of this discussion, I figured I may as well continue to be involved and post some more
From where I'm standing, the newsletter every week contains maybe up to 15 / 20 links to the big events of the week and the things that are coming up in the near future - you're right, it's your newsletter and obviously you choose what to include in it. My initial comments on this thread were from an outsiders perspective where I was surprised to see that Vermin didn't get a mention either in the week prior to the show or the week after, which prompted me to ask whether this was an oversight?
Given what has come to light, and correct me if I'm wrong, it appears it wasn't an oversight. However to quote you, you don't have any beef with Art-el and you simply forgot to mention Vermin in the newsletter?
If that isn't true, and you purposely didn't mention the Vermin show, then you can forgive me and others (including Mike) for thinking that you do have 'beef' with Art-el / Mike / Steph etc.
I'm not going to say anything else on the matter, but likes others am curious to know (1) why you chose not to include the Vermin show in any of your newsletters if you don't have beef with the above, whether it's because you forgot, you don't like the art etc (as you said it's your newsletter), and also (2) whether Mike 'told' you to include it in the newsletter via PM / email?
As I said I'm not taking sides in all this, but would like to offer a perspective on the matter from someone who's not involved and doesn't know either you or Mike that well
Over and out

Silky Email Newsletter, by willywonka on Oct 21, 2010 8:26:05 GMT 1, Haha I found the easiest thing to do was disable those emails right from the start. Then you dont have to read them at all. Brilliant! It's in your profile settings for anyone who is unsure.

Silky Email Newsletter, by manty on Oct 21, 2010 8:46:56 GMT 1, Silky, you obviously left the Vermin show off your newsletter out of spite, just man up. And as if galleries contact you to be included, you just scan through the main board.
This is how it comes across to me too Ross. I cant see it being anything else?
Appears to have been done to taunt a reaction, and then starts this incorrectly titled thread showing himself as a victim in this?
Quite bizarre

Silky Email Newsletter, by id on Oct 21, 2010 9:05:45 GMT 1, A view & suggestion...
1) The banksy forum has been for a number of years the No.1 place to discuss and air views on the development of Urban and Contemporary art.
2) The forum has over 10,000 members ;D
3) This is a public forum ?
4) Silky has been the owner / moderator of the Banksy forum for a long time...
5) Mike deserves the utmost respect
6) Dales show was ducking awesome!
Silky, on the flip side and duly taking into account all the 1000's of hours of time and effort you put into the forum each year, having such a large audience and the massive success of the forum should news letters and even the ethos of the forum not be driven by the members?
Of course given your years of experience, your artistic (if I can put it that way) direction / oversight and views are obviously deserved and going to come across and drive certain aspects of the forum, however the success has really been driven by it's members and therefore could you not consider at least a section within your news letter detailing the top five or ten most popular posts in anyone month. If this was the case then all high profile events (whether asked to include or not), artists, gallery shows that receive pages of comments would automatically go out to all members. This may even have the effect that dormant members become more active through interest in the most popular posts.
I know the news letter is yours (silky) and you have overall control, however from what I have read Mike has a reasonable point and for the greater good maybe adopting the above approach would be a worthwhile progression. I have never had an issue with the way our events are covered, in fact you have always been very supportive, but it seems a real shame that such a great guy, long standing member and contributor to this forum and field we are privileged to work in has had this experience (whichever way it has been caused).

Silky Email Newsletter, by Daniel Silk on Oct 21, 2010 9:09:50 GMT 1, A very strange reaility is being painted here, thats far from the truth.
Art-el is a GALLERY, along with HUNDREDS of other GALLERIES and ARTISTS that use this forum to promote there art. I send out and email newsletter pointing people to some of the shows, releases, events that are taking place in the scene. This is MY email that has MY name at the foot of it. Its not meant to show EVERY single event, as thats just not possible.
