Iconic pieces from this movement..., by Agent Provocateur on Sept 3, 2010 14:11:44 GMT 1, This is my little selection...
Banksy - Girl With Balloon Bast - Musk Beejoir - LV Child Blek Le Rat - The Man Who Walks Through Walls DFace - Pop Tart DOLK - Zooicide Eine - Scary Faile - Butterfly Girl Grafter - Splash Hutch - Rollergirl Jamie Reid - God Save the Queen Nick Walker - Moona Lisa Prefab - Enemy Of Promise (UK) Shepard Fairey - Andre The Giant
Strangely, thinking about other great artists like 3D, Antony Micallef, Blu, C215, HeraKut, Invader, Jonathan Yeo, Jose Parla, JR, Judith Supine, Paul Insect, Roa, Os Gรชmeos and Vhils no one image came to mind that stood above the rest as being 'iconic'. Don't get me wrong, all their work is stunning, just nothing stands out amongst their great body of work as better than the rest.
Or maybe it's because my memory's not what it used to be!

Then again calling "urban art" or what ever it is a movement, might also be a bit strong.

Iconic pieces from this movement..., by Happy Shopper on Sept 3, 2010 15:37:00 GMT 1, I'd say Mr Brainwash - Madonna and DFace - Pop Tart aren't truly iconic. Banksy did the Warhol rip off first, so that's the more iconic image... IMO.
DFace has Dog Save the Queen though. Very iconic.

Warhol has definitely had a huge impact on "the movement" but I thought he was out of scope in terms of being part it. "The movement", there has to be a better term. i feel like I'm taking a very important dump.

Iconic pieces from this movement..., by Wearology on Sept 3, 2010 16:05:25 GMT 1, When I was on a tour in the Middle East several years back - I asked what the signature was on an ancient artifact that the tour guide was showing us and the tour guide told me that this was an example of one of the earliest recording of graffiti ever discovered. When I think of the movement I think of the guys that had to beg people to take graffiti seriously in the late 70's early 80's like Fab Five , Haring , LA2 , Basquiat.

yep.. someone mentioned Haring and you could have mentioned works by any of the artists you just listed. How long do you want them to have been involved in the game before they qualify then ?
I could have mentioned the graffiti that I saw at Pompeii, although I didnt really think it was relevant to this discussion.
This is simply a fun thread for people to say what they think is a iconic piece for the artists we talk about here... nobody is trying to claim the most iconic piece in the history of graffiti/unban art/street art etc
also.. did the graffer back then, really beg to be taken seriously ? Basquiat did, but you could argue the street was his canvas, rather then being a graffiti artist

Iconic pieces from this movement..., by pezlow on Sept 4, 2010 7:49:29 GMT 1, Fun thread. I haven't heard of some of these "iconic pieces".
Very much a personal list but these would be the pieces that I will remember from this scene. Whether that means they are iconic I very much doubt:
Beejoir - LV Child Mantis - Ineed Banksy - GWB and Laugh Now Faile - Butterfly Girl AMP - Kwan Stef - This is your life Kennard -Photo op Swoon - Helena Ripper1331 - Crucipod

Iconic pieces from this movement..., by georgec7 on Sept 4, 2010 18:20:59 GMT 1, Great thread this - for me it has to be a bit personal - as I haven't sold these on!
Blek Le Rat - Last Tango - simple but striking image
Next - An underrated artist - Logan Hicks - Distant Future. Whenever somebody tells me that Urban Art is simple, I show them this and they can't believe that it is sprayed rather than a photo - classic!
And finally - Obey - Sunsets to Die For. This for me sums up the movement -a strong message in a strong image
