Not far from Brick Lane so if you are going there you definitely have to go there...was my favourite place to eat couple of years back when I used to live in London.

Help me plan my trip to london, by stillborncrisps on Jul 28, 2010 23:11:48 GMT 1, Ahhh.. Gormet San - looks like any other greasy Chinese, but it's the best I've had in London, and huge portions.
www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/sep/07/restaurants.foodanddrink
Not for the faint hearted (pigs trotters, lambs heart, etc) but they've got a few regular dishes too.

Help me plan my trip to london, by Deleted on Jul 30, 2010 21:20:20 GMT 1, Can't believe people are recommending Tayyab's to someone coming as a tourist to London. It's only great if you like rude 'I don't give a fuck about you service' with people standing around you waiting for table. No lamb chops are good enough for that.
The recommendations for urban art galleries to visit are sound enough but if you're a tourist first and an urban art tourist second then you should get on the Bus Tour - get on and get off as you see fit. A couple of hours well spent as a tourist imo. Generic yes but worthwhile.

Help me plan my trip to london, by Deleted on Jul 31, 2010 10:20:27 GMT 1, Tayyabs have destroyed themselves by being too good and not having the room to expand. Some weekends it's carnage with people's arses in your face whilst you eat your dinner they wait for your table impatiently staring at you. During the day (in the week) it's bearable.
Brick Lane offers many more alternatives - unless any one was massively into Indian cuisine I couldn't recommend Brick Lane at all anyway. Personally Providores and Hakkasan are my favs. although a tad expensive.

Help me plan my trip to london, by kunstrasen on Jul 31, 2010 10:27:57 GMT 1, sorry I deleted my post but didn't want to step on someone's feet...doesn't sound good how you describe tayyabs these days, guess publicity isn't a good thing in this case. i think they could expand though since the take away next to tayyabs belongs to them as well but don't think that expanding would be a good idea since it usually takes the charm of a place away. but can't really say much since i haven't been there in years.

Help me plan my trip to london, by joglu on Jul 31, 2010 10:54:06 GMT 1, we wont be there on weekends anways, so maybe it will be ok. i had a look at the website and it looks interesting and tasty, its hard to find a traditional restaurant like that here in luxembourg, so i think we probably will give it a try!
i bought a map yesterday to mark all the places i want to visit, hopefully i dont underestimate the distances between all the different places
I'll take you if you want, my treat thanks for the offer, very kind! maybe ill come back to it

Help me plan my trip to london, by stillborncrisps on Jul 31, 2010 12:03:44 GMT 1, Joglu, don't forget to buy an Oyster or Travelcard to get you to Brick Lane/East End - if you try and pay by cash for tickets (bus or tube) it's usually twice the price.
Both Travelcards & Oyster let you travel on all buses, underground & overground trains. If you can wait to travel after 9.30am on weekdays it's much cheaper.
Here's a link about them: visitorshop.tfl.gov.uk/english/ticket-types.htm

Help me plan my trip to london, by Happy Shopper on Aug 12, 2010 10:32:14 GMT 1, Just picking up on something from your original post: Don't bother with stuff like Madame Tussauds. You'll queue for hours and it's rubbish. London Eye is probably a good thing to do, and you can walk along the Southbank to Tate Modern, The Globe and Tower Bridge/Tower of London... and even further to the Design Museum. Book tickets in advance, if you can, for the London Eye.
