Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by hlarmy on Jul 24, 2010 17:29:22 GMT 1, In the past few weeks I've been looking for a new signed Banksy print - I am willing to spend up to £4k for the right print and of course I'm only happy to pay market value (or less ). So far, no luck. It seems like they're drying up - is that because the collector base is growing or because collectors now realise the importance of Banksy and are holding on to their prints for the long haul?
ps. get in touch if you need to sell one and have a reasonable price in mind

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by Daniel Silk on Jul 24, 2010 17:39:02 GMT 1, I think some people are upgrading their collections, and are moving towards having one or two signed Banksy's rather than having six or seven unsigned.
So yeah, Signed are getting pretty hard to come by

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by curiousgeorge on Jul 24, 2010 18:07:40 GMT 1, I don't think they are drying up, people are just holding onto and trying to squeeze very last penny they can out of a sale. I know a place with an impressive inventory but they are priced a fair bit higher than what they change hands for in private.
Best bet would be to keep ya powders dry and wait for the next release, have a feeling plenty will be available after release

That was a great price for the buyer IMO; I'd be interested in S&S, No Ball Games (if they weren't priced so high), Grannies, B&W Trolleys... the list goes on
When was the Donut release, that seems like ages ago. Would love to see Media or Monkey Parliament released, or the Santa Ghetto image from 2007 (the dove with a bullproof vest - cracking image!).

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by Deleted on Jul 24, 2010 19:49:39 GMT 1, Wait until Christmas, when Jonny needs a need bike / computer and so on - that tends to separate the financial wheat from the chaff.
Even as an admirer of some things Banksy, I do find current prices quite puzzling given the actual amount of signed works out there, it's not rare in the scheme of things and looks like a bubble.

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by Zippy on Jul 24, 2010 19:56:34 GMT 1, I dont think you can call it a 'bubble' as prices have remained constant for quite a while. I suppose its about supply and demand in that there is not much being offered so those selling can name their price.
I do agree though that as the year goes on, prices will drop again as people need money for other things. But I think we say the same every year!

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by Deleted on Jul 24, 2010 20:15:52 GMT 1, I don't think prices have remained constant - during the early part of 2008 when everyone thought the world was ending (financially) prices dropped considerably across the piece and Banksy wasn't insulated from this.
At this point, we are at a temporary high, but given a European debt crisis, a double dip and we will see a further drop I think. I just can't see on 5 years from now prices being paid readily supported to the extent they are now. An acceptance of the probability of some seasonal 'bargains' shows how thin the market is at what is, lets face it, the bottom end.
A quorum of people on here still can, unfortunately, make or break.

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by hlarmy on Jul 24, 2010 20:57:02 GMT 1, I agree luckersutd; prices have definitely gone up quite a bit in the past year, when Coloured Trolleys were selling regularly for £1.3 - £1.4k, and plenty of others were selling for sub-£2k. I remember this time last year being offered plenty of Soup Cans as well for around the £4k mark, which in hindsight I should have gone for...
A question to the likes of Lee3 and others who know the wider market, are Banksy prints high relative to most artists that are a lot more established. For example, I'd be interested in what low editioned Warhol, Lichtenstein, Bacon prints go for...

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jul 25, 2010 2:46:05 GMT 1, I think so.. the past year all of the signed have gone up & are becoming hard to come by... collectors aren't really going for the unsigned (apart from the older ones ie. barcode etc..) & as Silky says they are upgrading their collections (how many 'having a clearout' threads to we see on this forum?? quite a few..) people are saving a up more to get a nice signed print. Also I think so many people who visited the Banksy Museum exhibition (wider audience) are looking to buy/save up for one of his pieces. I think the signed pieces will continue to rise?? but how long for??

any particular image you're looking for ? I have signed, but seems that people on here generally judge the value of a Banksy print by its last sale on ebay.. so for example someone wants a signed Napalm.. they'll tell you last one on ebay sold for 3.6.. so how about 3.3 for yours.. ?

Sorry to hear about your situation
I bought one at an auction last month. I paid just under $7,000USD including the buyer's premium and shipping.
I had posted here before that, offering $7,500 USD to buy one but I didn't get any offers to sell.
My advice to you would be to ask for the moon. There is a lot of demand and very few for sale at any price. Lots of people will tell you all sorts of reasons why it isn't worth that much. In a few years it might be worthless who knows. But right now there are a lot of people who want one and not many willing to sell.
Open it up to offers on as many sites as you can, so people know you are selling. In the end you will likely get the best price on ebay, if you are willing to ship worldwide.

Thanks for the pointers, yea the moon would be 10K, but I think that would be a little to high. If I dont get taken to court for the 25K I can keep it, other wise it's going up in the next 2-3 weeks..Thanks again..

JJ.. you make a good point and I think that as we all own more pieces, there is an internal battle for wall space and what can actually be hung on the wall.

Are signed Banksy's drying up?, by redfred on Jul 25, 2010 10:44:35 GMT 1, I think Zippy has touched on a very good point, wall space dictates what we display and as collections build the cream rises to the top and gets displayed whilst the lesser unsigned pieces get sold on. In my case they tend to get stored away with the intention of having a "swop round" but it never seems to happen!

Good strategy, but I'm too impatient for that - plus we don't know whether there is going to be another print release - that could be it!
I have a budget of £2k (or thereabouts) - get in touch if you have any signed prints you wish to move on

Ha, I've actually decided to use the rest to buy a few pieces from another artist, and can therefore only afford the one signed Banksy at this stage. Having said that, not one PM so may have to rethink my strategy

The S&S was a good price for the seller (imo of course); I predicted the Grannies would go for around the 2.5k mark; if anyone has one that is interested in selling, please get in touch
