Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by Coach on Jul 6, 2010 23:59:52 GMT 1, The urban art fair is taking place on 17th and 18th July on Josephine Avenue, Brixton Hill, SW2. I have been to this several times over the last few years. Good atmosphere, and some gems. Great to see artists with their work spread over pavements and railings. Worth checking out if you are local. Will be there with my lad Cheers c

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by jusdeep on Jul 7, 2010 8:59:38 GMT 1, Hopefully the weather stays nice for this. There was some nice affordable art last year and I'm sure this years event will be bigger and better. Well worth a trip down if you're in the area.

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by jusdeep on Jul 7, 2010 12:18:42 GMT 1, Don't get confused about the urban art tag though. More urban community artists than anything else, although last year Idiom, Mark Perronet and maybe a few others were there. Also there's the annual Brockwell Park event just round the corner, more scrumpy and jerk chicken in the park.

Correct on both counts. Most artwork not what many would call urban, though some is - but a great event with artists selling works from the pavement. Usually a fabulous atmosphere. And the event in Brockwell park is the Lambeth Country Show - have been visiting that for many years. c

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by Mark Perronet on Jul 12, 2010 19:24:21 GMT 1, Yes thanks Jusdeep, I'll be there this year, although I dont appear on the website for some reason, have sent whingey email. I'll also be lugging along some of the Artswipe prints to give them an airing South of the river. I notice Ben Oakley's name as well as some interesting looking stuff. Some of Josaphene Ave closed to cars this year, let's just hope its dry!

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by Mark Perronet on Jul 20, 2010 19:33:32 GMT 1, just thought I would tell everyone here what a success I had at the fair. I was selling my Perronet stuff and had the Artswipe prints there too and sold lots of both. The name may be referring more to the setting than the art but the local people are well up for the stuff I am doing. I met a very nice guy called Demian who ran a gallery in Canterbury called Frission (Paintandbeatz.com) who took the above pic of happy customers and asked me to write a few words for the south london press, I said the people of Brixton were like the Artswipe prints, bright, witty and urban! I would urge some of you guys to apply next year as I think it might be well worth it and make the event a bit more contemporary.

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by recycle on Jul 21, 2010 12:58:48 GMT 1, Went down there myself and with the exception of about 4-5 artists the only thing urban about this was the location. What i did rate: Perronet/Artsipe had a great exhibit on the corner just opposite the Soulful gallery crew which did an amazing large piece live. Ben Oakley stuff was pretty cool. The was also a guy at the end doing proper street graff on canvas but i didn't catch his name. What i didn't rate: The artist who had all the dog pictures on exhibit, i mean c'mon pink poodles ain't street!
With the exception of a few most of the aritists there need to stick with what they know and that's selling crappy art on ebay It was ok for an hour or so if only to catch up with a few people i know, i would have been dissapointed if i travelled some distance though to visit this.
Special mention: Saw the Gerry Baptist screen print on the Artswipe stall and was particulary impressed with how vibrant the inks were.

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by Mark Perronet on Jul 22, 2010 19:31:09 GMT 1, thanks for your comments, yes Gerry's print is amazing, check out his website www.gerrybaptist.co.uk the pet portraits are by the guy who organises the fair! but my point is, next year loads of you guys should apply for a stand because my stuff went really well, the people of Brixton dig this stuff, give them more..

Urban Art Fair 17th and 18th July SW2, by recycle on Jul 23, 2010 14:59:22 GMT 1, Yeah it's definitly worth Exhibiting there, we did chat to them and they start taking bookings in January, and for a London fair it is really cheap as well.
