The London Original Print Fair, by spirit on Apr 29, 2010 17:33:29 GMT 1, I just spent a wonderful afternoon wandering around the print fair at the RA Piccadilly. Highly recommend a visit if you get the chance. Not a great deal of street art - a few Banksy's and Slikachu's at Andipa and another Gallery whose name escapes me and I saw a Swoon Helena somewhere too (£495 if anyone's interested). The Peter Blake Diamond dust Warhol portrait at Paul Stolper was very cool but I didn't think much of the new "Stars" series there. The Hirst foil skulls were kind of cool too.
Amongst other things I saw a lot of great early Bridgette Riley's and a couple of nice Anthony Gormley prints, some Picasso's, Miro's and Durer Woodcuts. Bridgette Riley is having a book signing of her new catalogue raisonne tonight at 6pm but they also had a few pre-signed copies and I managed to get one of those - great for £20 imo.
But my favourite gallery had to be Tag. I liked pretty much everything they had on display. Robert Ryan papercuts, Gonkar Gyatso Buddha prints, some other things I can't remember the name of and most brilliant of all Stephen Walker's maps of London.
I meant to go window shopping. I didn't mean to spend any money honest....but as it turns out I am now the proud owner of a Stephen Walter "The Magnet" print. It's like a smaller version of "The Island" and is a complete map of London out to about Zone 4. It's massive, incredibly detailed and is covered in little comments and observations about the different parts of London. I was familiar with the Island (it sold out a couple of years ago and now goes for about £10K on the secondary so waaaay out of my budget). I was also familiar with the 32 different borough prints which are on eyestorm, but I didn't know there was another print which showed the whole of London. It wasn't cheap but I am absolutely thrilled with the purchase and the wife likes as much as, if not more than me. (she actually talked me into buying it!!).
Anyway just thought I'd share that - Would be interested to hear if anyone else went and what they thought/bought.

The London Original Print Fair, by Winter on Apr 29, 2010 19:30:59 GMT 1, pretty amazed the skulls are still available. Other Criteria don't shout too loudly about them on their website but probably the best print I own

I didn't take any pics of it while I was there, but here's some images from the web...
It's big... 135 x 85 cm
and here's a detail
It's so detailed (and funny!) I think I could stare at/read it for a year and still not be completely familiar with it.

They did look very striking (not being a Hirst fan I liked them more than I care to admit). Paul Stolper had a box full of different ones. I didn't dare ask how much they were....

Love that Winter - like a lot of Hirst's pieces, dont like a few - but this is possibly my favorite. The gloss ones do look a lot nicer than the remainder - and yours is probably the best colour combination of them all - great piece. Looks like all the gloss ones have sold out. c

The London Original Print Fair, by My Name is Frank on Apr 29, 2010 23:16:14 GMT 1, For Hirst editions, there is only the coloured shark teeth that truly stands out imo.
The walker is a beauty spirit, one of the best London based editions since the great bear, again just imo.
for those that don't know it

The London Original Print Fair, by JKW on Apr 30, 2010 9:34:34 GMT 1, Had to agree that stephen walter's map is the highlight of the show!
Patrick Hughes' 3D stuff still mess with my eyes to good effect.

As said previously, it's an edition of 50, up at £2.2K but worth negotiating... There were 12 left when I bought mine. I think they sold 3 or 4 yesterday so you've got a reasonable chance tomorrow I would say...but I'd get there early as tomorrow will probably be the busiest day.
Good luck - a very special piece imo.

Appreciate the info. Now just need to find some strong negotiating skills and some more space on my walls
