Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by skem on Jan 25, 2010 20:59:25 GMT 1, Just looking to see what majority of people like when buying screenprints.
What size do you prefer your screenprints to be?
What do you consider an actually limited edition?
What price range do you prefer to buy them at?

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by skem on Jan 25, 2010 23:25:55 GMT 1, A little more background as to why I am asking these questions, is I am preparing to release my first print most likely next month.
My idea was probably going to be around 22 x 30 in size, edition of 100, priced at $150. All prints sold within the first 24 hours will also recieve a scratcher card with the possiblities of winning a Artist Proof, an actual canvas, a winning ticket for a future release of your choice and such.
I am wondering if the size is good as far as framing and if the edition size is about right or not.

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by spirit on Jan 25, 2010 23:48:44 GMT 1, I am preparing to release my first print.... My idea was probably going to be around 22 x 30 in size, edition of 100, priced at $150.
Well that's the business plan covered...
but what about the art?
if you post a picture it will help us get a much better idea of whether an edition of 100 at $150 is reasonable or not.
My initial reaction is it sounds very optimistic for your first print. If it was that easy, everybody would be doing it.
Oh, hang on a minute...

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by Deleted on Jan 25, 2010 23:52:02 GMT 1, agree with spirit.. 150 usd is a lot of money to spend on an artist I don't know anything about..
if this story is a succes I might be working for my red star (on the forum) too!

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by skem on Jan 26, 2010 18:15:56 GMT 1, Thanks for the input, I will post pictures of the print shortly, still have to screenprint them. I guess my real questions are should I put a limit of 100? Is that too small of a release?

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by spirit on Jan 26, 2010 18:38:12 GMT 1, if the art isn't very good and you only sell say 5 (or less), then 100 is way too many. if the art is really good then you might be able to sell more...
It all comes down to the quality of the art relative to its price...
Nothing worse than releasing an edition of 100 and 90% of them not selling ...
I think you might be better off starting by creating some originals and seeing if there is a market for those. Get some feedback and hopefully build a fan base. Depending on how successful that it is (or not) it should start to give you an idea of how big your market for prints is.
Without knowing the quality of the art, and the amount of people who might be interested in it at the price you set, it is impossible to really make any useful comment about edition sizes.
I know you haven't printed them yet - but do you have a picture of the original you can post or some kind of sketch/visual?
Its also worth bearing in mind that if your main motive for creating art is to sell prints and make money you will almost certainly fail. People will see through that straight away.

Questions / Preferences with Screenprints, by schlomo on Jan 27, 2010 17:55:39 GMT 1, Yeah spot on there Spirit mate, very nicely said.
Skem, whack up some pics of the work, get an idea what people think. Speak with them after that man as the image should always dictate the print size.......
IMO, and bearing in mind i havent seen your work so this is just my opinion on the price and edition size, i would drop both right down. Look at Mau and Beej's latest from SOS. editions of 12 and 75 quid a pop. That to me is how prints should be done......
Personally i agree with Spirit, get some og's done, get them seen, and see where it leads you. Oh, and dont do it for the cash cos no one has any at the mo!
