Dead Famous , by nicked on Aug 5, 2009 14:59:11 GMT 1, First off I would like to say hello to everyone on the forum, I've been a viewer of the work here for some time but never posted till now.
Quick introduction about myself, I do my work under the name of Nicked and live in the North East of England. I think that's enough about me so not to bore you all.
My first pieces of work im showing here are under the title Dead Famous, I've chosen this to highlight the change in culture which seems to be happening pretty fast. It's been said that after you die if you have done enough your name will travel on forever but due to popular culture I find that now the image of someone is starting to outlast the name.
Images of famous dead people can be seen hanging on peoples wall's but few even know the body of the persons work and some don't even know their name.
The pictures have been done in black ink using various artist pens ranging from 0.8 tip down to 0.05. The work is on 20in x 16in 300g paper and don't ask how many dots !
John
Audrey
Close up's
I'm looking at adding maybe 2 more images to my Dead Famous theme but I've already started on my net project which will have aspects of colour within it.
Thank you in advance for any feedback regarding my work. Nicked

Dead Famous , by LEVI C on Aug 6, 2009 14:01:06 GMT 1, welcome to the forum, love the execution and style of your work. For me the subject matter is very/too similar to D-Face dead elvis and jimi etc. In fact didn't he even call the series 'dead famous'?
just my opinion but it was my first thought when I say Audrey.

Dead Famous , by nicked on Aug 6, 2009 15:45:58 GMT 1, Thanks for the comments especially the ones regarding the style, I've been doing the detailed dot work for many many years now and have branched out to other mediums but always find myself back to this style and always feel at home doing my work with this effect.
I sense it get's harder as time goes by for new artists to stand out from the crowd with a lot of imagery getting done in the same mediums but I endeavor to stay true to the style that drives me to pick up a pen and do the work that can turn my idea into a visual representation.
To Levi, thanks for the feedback I've seen work by D*Face like Pop Tart, Cli-Che & Green Lady that share skeleton & flesh integration and to me when I view and take in his work I see it as worlds apart from mine due to his use of colour, medium and boldness (and of course his talent) but for my topic I found the picture I ended up with after many drafts worked well for me. To bring my idea/vision around Dead Famous to paper wouldn't have been right any other way.
I'm sure you will agree if every artist had to scan all work out there and then stay clear of a similar context there would be a lot of empty wall space in the world and that would be sad.
I'm just working on my next image linked in with this theme and should have it up within the next week.
Oh & djvlnt I didn't think of the selling aspect when doing these, just wanted to see how my idea to paper would come across but will mull it over while getting my next image done but might do a free give away lotto on this next one
