It was 20 years ago today..., by G-Man on Mar 14, 2009 14:27:22 GMT 1, I can say only one thing about this thread & that is i am now starting to feel a little old. It has been 21 since my first gig (monsters of rock at donnington 1988). Some albums just feel great & timeless. The stone roses album and the De La Soul album are works of art.1989 was a great year for music. That year i also purchased south of heaven by slayer,Bleach by nirvana & Fugazi's Repeater. We are only 2 years away from the 20th anniversary of the release of nevermind!
LOL I was there for the monsters of rock that year too!

It was 20 years ago today..., by My Name is Frank on Mar 14, 2009 15:10:19 GMT 1, Bugger me, time flies when you're having fun. To commemorate this albums anniversary, how about a competition?
First one to answer these 5 questions correctly wins one of these Ian Brown editions
1. What was the Stone Roses original band name (I'll accept two answers) 2. Which Picasso painting was the title of a stone roses song and which single was it on? 3. What are Mani and Reni's real first names 4. Name three bands who could be linked to members of the stone roses 5. Which Street did both Ian Brown and John Squire grow up on?
Post answers on here, first with all five wins and I'll PM for details.

Well done! Send over your address via PM and we'll get one away to you. Congratulations. The other band name I would have taken was the Patrol.

I have the original vinyl 'singles collection' box set. Must be pretty rare I think as I can't find very much about it online.
It's the vinyl version of this:
but with I think 8 12"s and the numbered gatefold LP.
I had to buy it when it came out after for some reason I sold all the original first pressing Stone Roses & Happy Mondays 12"s to a bloke at school for I think a tenner. I've been a horder ever since!

It was 20 years ago today..., by Urban Cowboy on Jun 23, 2009 21:54:11 GMT 1, i read there are going to be some art prints in with the singles so will pick them up.
Shame to be putting money in the pockets of the record company like you say Angel but I want them so will try not to think about that.
I remember the album from when I was a kid and now I own a few of John's originals, in fact, I am looking at one as i type this. Always brings back happy memories when I look at his work.

It was 20 years ago today..., by Urban Cowboy on Jun 23, 2009 23:13:56 GMT 1, stood next to Ian and Mani in a bar a few years ago, they were talking to Peter Hook, i really wanted to say hello but didn't want to butt in. Would love to talk to Ian as I love his solo stuff too. V Jealous.
As for pictures, I don't have any, sorry, never taken them, never been asked before.
Signal still have theirs up.
www.signalgallery.com/johnsquire.htm
I bought from the first show in Smithfield also but the pictures aren't online anymore.
If you saw the BBC Culture Show which featured John, it's on Youtube, I bought the one which he paints on camera. Very special piece.

It was 20 years ago today..., by low3 on Jun 23, 2009 23:39:13 GMT 1, Hell of a record. Brown is terrible live now. Morrissey is your saviour. AWESOME album My all time favourite band of all time Ian Brown gets better and better live I saw him at the Brixton Acedemy last year and I thought he'd really improved his live voice, back in the days of The Leeds Uni gigs in the 80's and early 90's he was truly awful!! Great great band and a real shame about John Squire and IB not being able to see eye to eye
Got to agree with you G-man, i've been to a few Brown gigs and he seems to get better and better with each one.
I think some of the shitness of his early gigs you can put down to getting absolutely wrecked 24/7. Age seems to have mellowed him a bit, and he's the better for it.
Don't see why he would be too arsed about a roses reunion. He's got nothing to gain by it really (compared to the other 3). Think Squire's is an absolute tit personally. He seems like the only one who ever stood out as a misfit. And as for his art; don't get me started!

It was 20 years ago today..., by spencerlee on Jun 24, 2009 10:51:48 GMT 1, I owned all the Roses 12s, as well as all the Smiths 12s too, only to leave them at my parents when I left home....and every single one of them was warped to fuck as the radiator was left on. Also gone, early Orbital, Orb, KLF etc.
Gutted.
