Taki 183, by burnz on May 15, 2009 3:09:57 GMT 1, Without TAKI 183, we probably wouldnโt have graffiti as we know it. He was the first tagger to leave his own neighborhood, and the New York Times article about him spawned an epidemic of tagging. Eventually, those tags became graffiti, but TAKI disappeared, only being occassionaly spotted in graffiti documentaries. He essentially gave up on tagging when he go too old for it.
But now the legendary TAKI 183 is back. His first ever commercial works have just gone for sale on his new website, taki183.net, and it looks like he is trying to get back into the graffiti scene.

Taki 183, by raiden on May 15, 2009 6:35:18 GMT 1, Interesting how all the old guys are trying to cash in (good for them I guess.)
Infamous tagger Chaka recently had a show in LA as well: www.chakaone.com/
At first, I always thought it would be cool to have a Taki 183 or Chaka tag, but now met with their actual releases of new work, I'm finding myself thinking, "Is the novelty worth it?"

Taki 183, by curiousgeorge on May 15, 2009 11:09:50 GMT 1, I think they have paid their dues, so if they want to earn a bit now so be it. (providing the price point is acceptable)
I notice you can get a print from Taki for $75, compare that to stuff sold way above those prices over the last year or so, they seem good value- and offer a chance for us 30-somethings to go back in the day
