That tank is pretty cool! A nice bit of A-Team/Macgyver style modification and a good paint job.

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by manchestermike on Apr 1, 2009 13:25:00 GMT 1, Love this:
David adds most people passing the office have taken the advice of police and employers and dressed down. "But there are exceptions. One man wandering past as I was coming in, was in full City pinstripe and told a policeman standing outside that he had decided to 'dress as offensively as possible'" says David.
I see it's all unsurprisingly kicked off with bottles flying at police from the protesters... have they not heard of recycling?

RBS window smashed.
I don't understand why the police don't have something like watercannons like they do in Europe for times like this

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by Agent Provocateur on Apr 1, 2009 13:53:32 GMT 1, Just got into London Bridge, been busy all morning... got this from the BBC:
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7975851.stm
US President Barack Obama has spoken of a "sense of urgency" needed to confront the global economic crisis.
The President met UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street ahead of the G20 summit of world leaders.
Mr Brown said the G20 leaders were hours away from agreeing a plan for economic reform.
Thousands of demonstrators, meanwhile, are jostling with police in London's financial centre as they call for changes in the global economic system.
G20 protesters in London
Outside the Bank of England, a small group of protesters threw small missiles at police lines, while windows were broken at a nearby branch of Royal Bank of Scotland.
Scotland Yard said 11 people - travelling in a renovated armoured personnel carrier - had been arrested on suspicion of possessing police uniforms.
Police estimated that up to 4,000 protesters - anti-capitalists, anarchists, and climate change activists - had gathered in the City of London.
Police leave during the two-day summit has been cancelled and six police forces are involved in the ยฃ7.5m security plan.
There is quite a bit more if you follow the link...

Exactly.

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by chrisps303 on Apr 1, 2009 14:11:48 GMT 1, Amongst the graffiti scrawled on the RBS branch: "Fuck the system", "Beat inflation - eat the rich", and "Scum". Paul Lewis estimates a hardcore of 20 troublemakers. He has looked inside and says it has been trashed and riot police are inside now. Just to confirm, the RBS branch was shut.

Its still symbols of capitalism, buying second hand is capitalism, last time I looked all charities had paid staff to administer them, where does that money go, to a fuckin bank. Filiming on your camera to go home later and log on via a corporate web link with your global brand computer to upload onto a corporate website and share with your friends is capitalism. What I am effectively saying is, its impossible to be protesting in a major city about capitalism.
THE ONLY EFFECTIVE PROTEST AGAINST CAPITALISM IS TO TURN YOUR BACK ON IT AND GO AND LIVE IN THE WILD. Otherwise its just a jolly day out isn't it? BEfore returning home to a place that someone has a mortgage for, be it yourself or the landlord. Its a pointless protest.

and slowmo that's pretty lame ass reason for not protesting - wow! - we live in a modern market ecomomy linked to huge corporate bodies errrrr yes - people can still be unhappy at recent events and show their displeasure - or should we all just stay in bed?

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by slowmo on Apr 1, 2009 15:23:00 GMT 1, If you don't have a solution, or a reasonable idea of how to improve things, of which this shows no sign, then I do wonder what the point is? If that many people were wanting to make a change, the protest could have been far more effective than just a march.
For example the targeting of all banks indivudal savings accounts. Encourage all people who feel the banks have been unfair to close their accounts and withdraw all their money on a temporary basis at the same time. Everyone this morning doing that would have caused a lot more people to sit up and take notice.
A modern world needs more modern means of protest than a few banners and a day out in town, everyone knows they'll go home, come back tomorrow and that will be the end, maybe a bit of fighting police thrown in. Now if the protesters had orchestrated closing accounts and ยฃ40-50million pounds + disappeared from the system, that would be a protest with a real punch that would reach their intended targets.

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by manchestermike on Apr 1, 2009 15:56:01 GMT 1, What about all the protesters smashing up places, throwing bottles and other objects etc at the police? What do you expect them to do? Smile sweetly and say carry on?
Of course we'll have all the reports tonight from the "innocent" protesters who did nothing and got "brutally attacked" by the police. I'm sorry, but you get involved in something like this today and you take the consequences of not just your actions but the actions of all those around you.

If that's the case we're back to the football analogy. You go to a game and there's some nazi hooligan cnut in the same shirt as you hurling abuse - I'll tar you with the same brush.
It was a direct response to your photos. They're obviously there to show the reactions of the police, but the police are reacting to provocation.
You do not go to a football match knowing there will be trouble or even there is a high chance of trouble. I'd say pretty much everyone who has gone to this today knew before hand there would be trouble, and have put themselves in that position

Financial Fools Day 1 April 2009, by low3 on Apr 1, 2009 16:25:36 GMT 1, Exactly Mike, and the other big difference is that if you see some nazi fascist cunt in the same football top as you, you try to get as far away from him as possible cos you know he's gonna be a trouble magnet.
Everyone knew that there would be trouble makers there today so by going and joining them you inevitably put yourself in danger of a bashing by the police. They can't just ask people to stop causing trouble and go away can they??

altho wondering whether with short selling being allowed once more (i think) some city types would make an absolute killing on something like this

Agree, but breaking into bank branches where people who had no involvement in this whole mess work is not any of the above! Even more so when technically we work for said bank!
