You lot are weird... but now I am too..., by Deleted on Feb 8, 2009 19:49:25 GMT 1, All,
I've been aware of Banksy for 5 or 6 years and, like most people, I've had a smirk when I've seen one of his images on the street or in the paper.
Then, last year, the bugger goes and hoists a supermarket carrier bag up a flag pole just round the corner from my house.
Now, I'm an inquisitive kind or guy and one night I sat down with a glass or three of wine and googled and flickred and before long, I'd stumbled across a forum where people talked about 'flipping', 'PMi'ng' and 'F5'ing'. They talked a whole new language, they had strange names and they were corralled by a guy called 'Silky'. All very strange.
Then I click on a link through to 'pictures on walls' (or POW if you are one of Silky's mates) and see that periodically the shy bloke with the stencil kit releases a print or two.
Now, roll forward...
In the last few months, I've...
... learnt what 'F5'ing' was with Nola and failed to get one.
... stood in the rain and the cold for a few hours to enter a raffle and didn't get VLH.
... learnt what flipping is when I've watched Nola and VLH appear on eBay for small fortunes almost quicker than I would have been able to enter my credit card details.
but,
... I've also met some really nice forum members at the POW open day and the London Art Fair.
... I've got hold of a Paul Insect lower than cost due to the generosity of a forum member (thanks VeraLynn)
... I've a beautiful Lucy Mc Forest hanging in the lounge (thanks uglyiq)
... there's a Josh Keyes 'Call' winging it's way from the US.
... and, I have finally got myself a Banksy!
Ok, ok, it's only an unsigned B&W Trolleys and almost won't count to many of you, but I'm over the moon and working out framing options. I'll be on the lookout for a Stop and Search within my budget and if anyone has a Nola or VLH they are bored of well, drop me a PM!
So, Silky and all, my wife and my wallet won't thank you, but you have a new, fully-paid up, member of the club.
All the best to all of you! Now, I'm off to check POW (again), just in case...
... Well, you never know, they could do a shock Sunday release, one day... :-)
Regards,
Adam.

Best of luck adding to your collection, prices are falling so you should get lucky this year, and welcome to the forum

You lot are weird... but now I am too..., by howies on Feb 9, 2009 14:02:42 GMT 1, well done Adam, I also received my first Banksy today an usigned B&W trolleys from a forum member and I must say it was a great easy hasslefree transaction I have had nothing but positive deals on the forum since I joined.
also I love the image and it was always the first one I wanted, i can't wait to get it on the wall ;D

Me too mate. Glad to hear it. Sadly it's always the odd deal that goes South, which gets the prolonged spotlight, but so far I've never had any problems with fellow members. It's really good to be able to trade this way, without feeding the ebay and paypal monsters. Viva la communidad!
