New to Art-el - The art of Clean, by Art-el on Jan 13, 2009 21:25:30 GMT 1, In typical Art-el style we thought we’d slip something new, fresh & inspiring under the radar while the world was getting in a right old ‘Empire State’.
Far removed from traditional graffiti or street art, but still in the genre of grime. We bring you the works of Sarah Cockings & Alice Hodge who collaborate to reveal the murky & dirty dealings of ‘Clean’!
The word ‘unique’ gets trotted out far too easily in the crazy world of art. So we won’t burden 'The Clean Collective’ with that one. lets just say their work is incredibly ‘Sui generis’. You gotta love a delve into the ‘Thesaurus’ once in a while.
Baking Tray - Dirty Dishes - Ship Tray
Artist Statement
CLEAN. Artist duo, Sarah Cockings and Alice Hodge. Born 1982
By taking the grubby and grotty bits of life that are consciously covered up, hidden in drawers, shoved under beds and stuffed under sofas, & grotty cupboards.
Clean aim to challenge status and turn what is perceived as beautiful on its head.
The dull and dirty become decadent and opulence is brought back to base.
An eclectic mix of the sublime and the ridiculous
Come check it at www.art-el.co.uk/collections/clean
Dust Portrait - Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust - male
Love your life
Peace

We are excited to work with these gals, and trust me there's more to come as they have been doing the work/art/life balance thing.
They cover every base with their work on mirrors, baking trays, spectacles, sculpture. instalation and much more

I'm sure I've seen a couple of these at a Bristol exhibition in the Penny Brohn cancer centre and they were stunning.
Glad to see you exploring the slight tangent if they are the same artists.

Adamski I knew you were a clever lad & that bold call is extremely perceptive.
Yes those two huge pieces were shown (and sold I believe) at the exhibition/fundraiser for the Penny Brohn cancer centre.
They were well over a metre square and on copper that had been patinated to produce an image with the verdigris.

I always take great pleasure from introducing non graff or stencil related work to the forum and it is debated and/or well recieved.
