A Question for all you screenprinters., by Karl Read on Jan 16, 2009 12:08:08 GMT 1, Hopefully some of you guys can help. I started a screenprinting course last week, i would like to translate some of my work to screenprints so thought id learn the art of pulling it by hand. 
We are using acrylic paint mixed with medium, however it's not getting the look or coverage im after. I was wondering if this was the norm? I thought it would be waterbase inks, rather than acrylic mixed with medium. If you can help id like to hear your thoughts or maybe where i can order the right stuff.

Thanks for the reply Rene, so it's ink right? Not paint? Im sure the stuff im using is to paint like. Do you ad medium to the ink. As im pulling it by hand im sure it's my lack of practice that needs to be improved also. Do you hand pull your own screens also? You can use acrylic to print. The problem could be your mesh count. As in to tight a mesh and not enough ink/paint is getting through.

Do you know a decent size mesh to use?

I used some Acyrlic the other day to make some stickers (no medium used) and it came out fine but had to do about 3 pulls to get the covarage. the finish was very textured though and if you want to go for the normal "limited edition" screenprint look then go for the inks

You kind of confirmed my thoughts there stickee, cheers, do you know anywhere to buy any?

Lately, Ive been using UV inks, since they dont dry until you heat them. It helps on really detailed stuff. I usually use acrylic, but it drys so darn quick.

Thanks for the info, do u use acrylic ink or paint. What do you use to thin it down? Medium?
To dry UV inks do you use a heater?
