Payment by cheque?, by ryskip on Jan 18, 2009 14:27:03 GMT 1, Are there any potential problems if someone wants to pay by cheque?
Obviously I wouldn't send anything until payment is cleared but is there anything else I should be aware of?
Many thanks

Payment by cheque?, by redfred on Jan 18, 2009 14:50:31 GMT 1, Sounds O.K. but I was informed that it can take up to 2 weeks for a cheque to fully clear even though it will clear into your account after 3-5 days, if it bounces after its cleared into your account then you are still liable. Sounds harsh but just another example of the Banks wanting their cake and eating it!!

Payment by cheque?, by veralynn on Jan 18, 2009 17:21:14 GMT 1, Hi, small technicality here - if you bank in the UK, then after 6 working days you can assume that the cheque is cleared. After this time the Bank has recourse only if they suspect you of knowingly trying to de fraud them, i.e. cross firing.
If you ask you bank to send the cheque by special presentation, then you can have the knowledge that the cheque is paid faster, this relies on the post but generally takes max 2 days from the day you pay in and will cost you abt £15.00
