New piece - Bang goes the gun, by schlomo on Jan 18, 2009 22:00:55 GMT 1, how do forum.
Had my first chance of the year to get some work done, so finished up an old stencil which i'm gonna spray onto canvas some time soon, after getting a new red pen....
Still not sure on background colour so any thoughts welcome.

New piece - Bang goes the gun, by chymo on Jan 18, 2009 22:42:52 GMT 1, A lot of mystery there Hero. Schlomo I really like the stencil, but I don't think there's enough detail on the little girls face. Also the gun's looking a little 2D. But hey if you wanted it like that then that's cool. Really like the concept. Not too sure on the background though, think you should go solid colour, or take Hero's idea (if it works )

concrete on canvas...didnt think it would dry but then just changed colour and went a light grey really easy to mix actually...very cheap from homebase...great effect, no i just have to stencil on it ;D

New piece - Bang goes the gun, by pointblank on Jan 18, 2009 23:11:52 GMT 1, Looks good mate, plain background though maybe? Concrete on canvas is good, tried it before , eine has done a few bits on concrete as well, sets quite well.

New piece - Bang goes the gun, by Deleted on Jan 19, 2009 2:12:28 GMT 1, I think the idea is strong which is always a good starting point.
But I'm going to be honest with you because this forum needs to be constructive and free (without offending).
The background is not the only issue here. Taking that first, it doesn't actually go behind the figure so it looks flat and the spots of colour are slightly weak.
Secondly, The figure of the girl has strange proportions and not enough detail as though its a free hand sketch (which I suspect it is). The gun looks like a 2D cutout and like no gun I've seen. At least take a picture of a real weapon (AK47 or Kalashnikov(?)) and make your stencil from it.
I think it just needs resolving before you go to canvas.
You've put yourself out there and I always respect that and what I say means nothing outside the little room from which I'm typing this. These are just my quick observations based on my own instincts. You might be exactly after the look you've achieved in which case it is your right to express yourself in any way you wish.

New piece - Bang goes the gun, by schlomo on Jan 19, 2009 11:20:13 GMT 1, Easy Mikee, Cheers for the feedback man, always welcome in any form. The background is my main issue at the mo, the spray above is just to check the stencil and get an idea of the colour the background will be, as well as other peoples ideas of what the colour should be (its always good to get second opinions i reckon). On the finished piece i'll get rid of the outline around the figure so the background colour will be tighter to her, which should sort out the flatness you mention...
I've actually just noticed that some of the detail on the face hasnt come out in the pic above, not sure if thats my camera or if i was running out of black paint, or if i just missed it whilst spraying, but i'll resolve that before it goes to canvas.
I've had a number of people ask about the gun man! The gun for me was always the least important part of the image, I wanted it to look like a gun, but to be the idea of a gun rather than an accurate representation of a gun.... its hard to explain my thought process really, so sorry if that doesn't make any sense matey.
Anyways, glad you like the idea of the image man, and as i said always nice to get feedback in any form.
I think i've decided to go solid background, and probably quite a light colour so that the lettering on the flag stands out more. Will post up some pics when done. Thanks to all for input and advice.
Ta Schlo
