Recommend A Book Thread, by futureworldleaders on Dec 30, 2008 13:25:23 GMT 1, I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to art books and have a rather impressive collection. I was thinking it'd be nice if we could have a thread where everyone can suggest books worth reading and where they can be purchased from. I'll start...
Andy Howell - Life, Skateboarding and Art. A great insight into the life of Andy Howell, with words from people like Obey, Dave Kinsey, David Choe, and just about everyone who's anyone in skateboarding.
www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Skateboarding-Life-Andy-Howell/dp/1584232617/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230638650&sr=8-1
Toast - Black ink Swiss based artist Ata Bozaci AKA toast. Over 200 pages with loads of illustrations, sketches and pieces.
www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Ink-Ata-Bozaci/dp/1584232943/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1230638884&sr=1-1 123KLAN - design and designer Small book with few words but loads of pictures of their work, both commercial illustration and spraypaint pieces.
I had to email them to get hold of it in the UK but they are super friendly. www.123klan.com
Street Sketchbook - Tristan Manco Always inspiring to see other artists sketchbooks and this book is huge and very diverse.
Half price on amazon at the mo! www.amazon.co.uk/Street-Sketchbook-Graphics-Art/dp/0500513627/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230639197&sr=8-1

I have 5 absolute favourites that I read very/watch very often..
when you think you know nothing and dont understand anything of the work on the streets: Cedar Lewisohn and Henry Chalfant - Street Art (the graffiti revolution).. really a great book.. available at amazon for usd 16,47.. bargain..
To see some of the best work from Adam Neate AND Ron English (amazing artist too, almost no talk about him on this forum but what a talented guy..): The Adam and Ron show, available at the bay (WITH FAKE SIGNINGS, what else do you want uh!) or via Elmslesters site.
Another great book is the one by Phil Frost, hardly any text, just images, but its great.. Available at amazon I think for 30 USD (unsigned) and sometimes a signed one on the bay (I have two signed ones and willing to sell one.. just pm me).
other two: Both the Jose Parla books.. dont need any further explanation I think
Edit: Graffiti world, published by thames and hudson and written by Nicholas Ganz can give you some fine moments too!!!

And Ernest is an incredible artist. It is still available there (but seems to be sold out everywhere else) :

Street art & the war on terror has some interesting pieces from all over the world, some best taken with a pinch of salt but worth a look

That Blu book is brilliant, definitely recommend that too!
I recently purchased the Maclaim book which is great, some of their photo realism stuff will blow you away. They are a crew of 4, one of them is Akut (half of Herakut). Only slight problem is that the text is in German. You can download a pdf preview of the book here... www.maclaim.de/preview-maclaim-pdf.zip and buy it from their site or on ebay.

The printing quality they used is suberb, you can really feel the ink on the paper on some of the dalek pieces, it has a very distinct smell (normally I dont smell my books, but I couldnt resist ), and the interviews are top quality.. not too much text, the images do the job. It is a lot of money (175 gbp) but I think it was worth it, here must be about 700 left? I received number 232 or so.. I'd say: go and get it
