NY Recommendations, by sm on Dec 27, 2008 15:22:59 GMT 1, Hey,
I'm in NY for the holidays and was hoping some locals might be able to recommend some galleries or street pieces worth checking out while here that I might not be aware of.
These have no doubt been posted but a couple of great pieces I saw yesterday around the meat packing district.
Conor Harrington (wow!)
Jef Aerosol
Shepard Fairy

NY Recommendations, by Mike Marcus on Dec 27, 2008 15:42:57 GMT 1, When I was there I pasted up mainly in Williamsburg and Bushwick. Both areas are fantastic for street art. Also while in Bushwick check out Adhoc gallery. Right now they are showing a group exhibition of swoon, ghaia, elbowtoe and imminent disaster in the front room and C215 in the back.
Other places to check out are Wooster (particularly the chinatown end), Dumbo and Alphabet city.

NY Recommendations, by Mike Marcus on Dec 27, 2008 15:56:41 GMT 1, 11 spring st in soho used to be a street art mecca but that was cleaned up a few months ago. The baton has now passed to the "candy factory" which is near the bottom of Wooster next to a carpark where one of the large Banksy rats was (is?). I will dig out an email that Gaia sent me and post it here. It contains some the decent locations in Williamsburg and a suggested walking route.
In Bushwick, Andrew in Adhoc can give you advice on which streets to walk down.

NY Recommendations, by romanywg on Dec 27, 2008 16:10:19 GMT 1, If you want to see street art head towards the Williamsburg Bridge. It is all down there. Go down South 5th street to the bottom and then all the streets S.4th - S.1st and the cross streets Kent, Wythe, Berry there you will find Faile, Bast, Walker, Know Hope, Revs, Supine, Stain, Swoon. The Nick Walker giraffiti is on Metropolitan and Roebling (also have a coffee opposite, very good. There is a great Vandal of NW in the meat packing district. Also the 3rd picture of yours is by Shepard Fairey and the small piece is by Stikman.

NY Recommendations, by jonvespa on Dec 27, 2008 18:51:20 GMT 1, fuse gallery currently has a travis louis show, all the pieces are small, but if you havent seen one in person, they are quite amazing...i was there yesterday.
also, hit the ben sherman store if its your thing, mens clothing is stupid cheap right now. i picked up 13 shirts/pants/shoes for under $400.
supreme, wesc, 99x all having sales.
check out the john varvatos store at the old cb's location, just to see a bit of the cb's history....(my gf worked there for four years prior to it closing, so it was quite nostalgic for her).
oh, we saw some mr brain wash, andre, and thats really it, but we were just in soho area.

NY Recommendations, by sm on Dec 27, 2008 23:15:29 GMT 1, thanks for all the recommendations, I have been doing a combination of shopping and art spotting today, my feet are ready to explode. I'll try more of the suggestions tomorrow and post any finds. I could only find one of the large Banksy rats (the one on Wooster), the others seem to have been removed, I'm a retard at using maps and am easily distracted so I may have just missed them. was very beautiful though.

I loved finding these Os Gemeos. I had no idea they were there and was drenched and heading back to the subway, turned a corner and was amazed.
