Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by Replete on Dec 20, 2008 17:00:23 GMT 1, And would you understand if I mentioned a shadowy entity?
Anyone else suffer from this or know of people that have experienced this facsinating if somewhat disturbing phonomenon?
You can PM me if you prefer.
P.S feel free to take the piss out of me as I expect it (and can understand it as it's ripe for mirth making) but it doesn't diminish the profound nature of this phonomenon that 1 out of 100 people will experience during their lifetime and has been documented throughout recorded history. So some serious discussion is welcomed ;D

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by slowmo on Dec 20, 2008 17:50:04 GMT 1, Used to get it a lot as a kid. Used to have strange and scary visions of a hairy beast coming out of the wardrobe, the bizarre part was the beast always had a white boiler suit on. Couldn't move, couldn't breathe, couldn't make a sound. Then suddenly I could move and would pull the covers over my head and have horrific panic attacks, often making me oass out through lack of oxygen.
Luckily it stopped when I was still a child. Forgot all about it till this thread!

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by Replete on Dec 20, 2008 18:20:43 GMT 1, Cheers for the feedback so far guys and thankyou Helix for the links. I was aware of Blackmore and Persingers work as it's been featured in some books and documentaries I've seen on various subjects involving the activity of the brain but I'd never seen that lecture before. I often wonder what effect weak electromagnetic fields play in my life as I'm constantly bathed in them and listening to music (with the headphones EM fields soaking into my brain) whilst painting is essential and informs a lot of how the paint is layed down upon a surface.
Seems I suffer from a more extreme form of the phonomenon as I've been menaced and seemingly physically dragged around by the shadow entities involved.
The reason I asked this question on here is that most creative people are much more likely to experience this phonomenon and I wonder if they try and incorporate their experiences into their work or like most try and blank it out and forget about it?

Also based on the amount of drugs you might have done in the few days prior!
I used to get it a fair bit, not for a while though, but maybe that's because as you get older you take it a little easier

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by bullet on Dec 21, 2008 2:44:30 GMT 1, worst time is when you cant breath or move.
then you have to force yourself.
unless you already are disabled or paralysed - it is the closest you will come to experiencing it without actually experiencing it if you see what im saying

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by Wearology on Dec 21, 2008 2:52:21 GMT 1, I have suffered from Insomnia since 1990 - I travel over 300 days a year for the past 17 years and never sleep - I have tried every sleeping pill known to man and nothing helps - I am meant to be a person who doesn't need , require , or want sleep - One of the down sides is I look sleepy -

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by Replete on Dec 21, 2008 3:39:14 GMT 1, the feeling on being totally incapacitated unable to move or speak and feeling totally vunerable to a malevolent force can be a most terrifying experience at first but what I'm becoming aware of by talking to people by PM is all of those that have experienced this are overwhelmingly more intrigued about it as opposed to being in abject fear of the phonomenon.
And Wearolgy I know somewhat about insomnia as I've suffered prolonged bouts in the past and still find it hard to go to bed before 6am every morning but it's ok by me as I do all my best painting after midnight and never try and paint a canvas before then.
I've also experienced narcolepsy for a period of three years in my early twenties which was way more disturbing than the sleep paralysis or insomnia as I'd just pass out at my keyboard whilst at my old video game artists job and I lived in fear of being discovered as I thought I'd lose my job.

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by pezlow on Dec 21, 2008 8:51:41 GMT 1, Not exactly the same but at the age of 18 my cousin woke up one morning and could not move anything from the neck down. He was in hospital for about 4 months but eventually got all the movement back. The doctors were unable to totally explain it, apart from it being a neural thing.

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by jmcy9999 on Dec 21, 2008 17:26:53 GMT 1, Molly is the cause of my sleep paralysis - I am guaranteed sleep paralysis for one or two nights directly after hard partying...it got so bad back in 1992 that I thought I was going mad and went the doctors about it ....I was getting full on groups of "things" standing at the end of my bed, hovering in the doorway, standing on me and over me. At that point I hadn't made the association with the Molly...but even when I did make the connection, it didn't deter me, I now just accept it as yet another thing to factor in for a comedown....lol. Sad I know.

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by low3 on Dec 21, 2008 20:22:11 GMT 1, Molly is Mandy in my circles.
Only ever had sleep paralysis once and it scared the bejesus out of me. Convinced myself that the girlfriend's house was haunted, before i actually found out what had happened. I hope it doesn't happen again to me: once was more than enough!

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by AJ on Dec 23, 2008 10:10:44 GMT 1, I had it a lot during a time of stress (a relationship break up) which was exacerbated by a lot of partying. At that time it was as if I was being swallowed up by the bed and was shouting with nothing coming out. I don't get that anymore, but I do infrequently physically reach up or get out of bed to touch "something" that I see and have had this experience for a number of years.

The reaching out to touch things happens to me but i have never had the paralysis thing though.

Does anyone else suffer from sleep paralysis?, by bristolboy on Dec 23, 2008 16:10:43 GMT 1, I like this thread, Ive experienced sleep paralysis a lot, when I was younger it was the scariest thing ever, I actually thought the demons were real its quite haunting trying to nod off in fear of these strange creatures that raid your sleep. Losing the ability of movement in your body and also your ability to talk, shout or scream is horrible. Though eventually I found it fascinating to stay calm and experience the 'demons' in front of my face. To be fair I have experienced psychoses which is probably another thread in itself, though it makes sleep paralysis seem easy.
