Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by afroken on Dec 23, 2008 22:38:56 GMT 1, lovely. this piece was from Lazarides wasn't it? I'm sure i saw it there in early '06. Do you turn the light on often? I think i would be concerned at blowing one of the bulbs!
I bought it direct from Polly. She keeps me in supply of little lights bulbs for free! They blow quite regularly.

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by Karl Read on Dec 23, 2008 23:01:14 GMT 1, I doubt you could answer why you think it is worth a grand to you? - the work itself i find peaceful, reflective and makes me consider the fragility and fleeting nature of life. - the price; because usually it would take at least five times as much to buy a one-off piece. so, again, why is it disgusting?
For me, i dont find a dead animal peaceful at all, i think there could be much better and original ways to illustrate the fragility and fleeting nature of life. I agree with Origo in the fact that i think any living thing should be buried, apart for scientific or health research or for museam display, (education) not "in the name of art". This is just my thoughts on this and im not questioning if it's art or not, just what i would consider Art for my personal collection.
Your reply on why do you think it is worth a grand to you, "because usually it would take at least five times as much to buy a one-off piece" i find quite amusing. Anyway, each to their own and all that. Lastly it is nice to see a thread talking about Art rather than all the bitching, flipper etc etc that has gone on here recently.

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by Poppy Sunshine on Dec 23, 2008 23:01:47 GMT 1, Just like we had the debate about Case a couple of weeks ago it's again down to personal taste but you really can't argue with the unique talent Polly Morgan has in her field of work. I wanted to add something of hers to my collection ages ago and thanks afroken for reminding me she's still out there. Is there anywhere other than her own site where I might find something?

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by hick on Dec 23, 2008 23:02:53 GMT 1, Afro, i am very jealous i wish i could afford a piece by her. there is definately something hauntingly beautiful about her work, i really love the piece of the bird with its head hanging off the book (do you own that) funny what a reaction it has got from people on here. I find 99% of the god awful pictures posted on here in the name of art a lot more distateful than her work which is very thought provoking and melancoly. still you cant really beat a two bit political stencil eh ? this thread is further proof that .info is only good for up to the minute news and 'other' forums are where the real art lovers live.

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by origo on Dec 23, 2008 23:07:04 GMT 1, So you are not a true art lover if you donยดt like this?
I donยดt have one single stencil piece in my collection, in fact I am not a big stencil fan even though I am on the Banksy board.
A good forum should be able to discuss art in a constructive way, just like we are doing here. People are putting down some pretty valid reasons for liking or disliking, so calling this thread a proof for the place being bad is kinda wrong.

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by afroken on Dec 23, 2008 23:16:45 GMT 1, To be fair, when I posted something about Polly Morgan over on WK a while back the only response I got was someone posting a picture of road kill.
I'm not disagreeing with you though Hick

Fair enough Hick, might have come on a little harsh but that was the way I felt about the work when I saw it. Iยดll be more gentle next time around.
I on the other hand think that this is a proof why this forum is very much alive, there are still several members being able to discuss work like this in a constructive way, like it should be on this board.
Happy holidays to everyone, hope I donยดt get a crushed mouse for christmas. ;D

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by afroken on Dec 23, 2008 23:29:37 GMT 1, Is this the one Hick?
After 8 months of talking to Polly she finally put 3 pieces in front of me to choose from, this one included. I chose the other two. I kick myself about it, but this one was the most expensive.

Care to expand on that?

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by neale on Dec 24, 2008 0:30:46 GMT 1, Can someone please explain what I'm missing in this work, is it not dead animals wedged into small containers? and by the way, you dont have to be a vegan to respect the life of other living things, this work just exploits animals for its own sake, how many dead ducklings have you ever come across?

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by afroken on Dec 24, 2008 0:33:45 GMT 1, All the animals she uses have died of natural causes. Have a read of some of interviews in the press section of her website for the full low down. She clearly has a great deal of respect for and affinity with animals. So I don't think that's an argument.
But you don't like it, and that's completely fine.

Bargain (if you like lame taxidermy gone wrong), by afroken on Dec 24, 2008 1:11:22 GMT 1, As a point for discussion: given that Banksy kick started Polly's career, can people see any of her influence on his pet store work? I thought the rabbit with make-up / mirror was a clear nod towards her.

Not sure about kick starting her career, but certainly taking a lead. I felt that Polly's work was more specific, more personal. Banksy's, whilst very good was pretty generic and didn't have that closeness that Polly's can
