Merry Christmas from Adolf, by Pistol on Dec 20, 2008 19:47:14 GMT 1, Have recently been working on a few ideas one of which involves a few variations on the Hitler theme. Whilst test spraying today came up with this idea.
I did read the thread about artists not promoting their work and I do agree to some extent. However and it is a big however I would like to say since joining this forum I have become well hooked on 'Urban art' and thanks to the likes of Stickee, Logical 1, SPQR, Banksee, 20/20, Grafter, Ben Slow and many many more I have picked up and learned so much. There are alot of fine people that frequent here and are willing to listen and help. I think this forum encourages new artists and maybe should be left as it is.
Merry Chritmas and a Happy New Year to all forum members.

Merry Christmas from Adolf, by Zippy on Dec 20, 2008 20:12:37 GMT 1, agreed. I get that you are poking fun but just seeing the sickening image still stirs up emotions. I understand that as an artist you might wish to try to push boundaries, shock, scare and frighten people. But this image can never be seen in amy other way as pure hatred.

Merry Christmas from Adolf, by loucastel on Dec 21, 2008 0:32:19 GMT 1, Strange this, I know that we should accept all forms of art, normally this wouldnt bother me, but the other night I got roped into watching the movie Cabaret with Lizza Minelli, and one of the songs I found very disturbing, it was the anthem for the Hitler Youth, and until a few years ago was banned from being screened, really made me think!

I don't know about this part of the film ever being banned, but to my sad nerd-like knowledge it's not the anthem of the Hitler Youth. It was written by John Kander and Fred Ebb who penned the tunes for the rest of the film version of Cabaret.
Another interesting related item (I think) is this. Laibach and the NSK art-group who've been around since the 80s. Their work is generally a criticism of totalitarianism of all political persuasions and they have been attacked as fascists and communists because of the imagery and the sound of the music they make. As said on this thread, appropriating the iconography of the far right is problematic and has to be carried off with absolute perfection to avoid accusations of celebrating it. I've followed Laibach since the 80s, they are not fascists and this is one of the most sinister music videos I know. fr.youtube.com/watch?v=_q5mlb3Bjzs&feature=channel_page

Merry Christmas from Adolf, by bobbymeachamjr on Dec 21, 2008 19:47:43 GMT 1, I was a Laibach fan up 'til the mid 90's, peaking with Kapital. I was also greatly into the "Apocalyptic folk" of Current 93/Death in June/Boyd Rice/Nurse with Wound who many times employed imagery that the Nazis appropriated...
That said, the artist who started this thread should do some more research and/or take some creative development classes.

Merry Christmas from Adolf, by Pistol on Dec 24, 2008 19:20:40 GMT 1, Thankyou all for your kind comments. I have to say I find it a bit odd you are so offended by a pic of someone. If there was some evil intent or political view then I could understand, but then if we all had the same opinions this forum and life in general would be quite dull. Anyway none of you have put me off but I always appreciate any views, so thanks again!
