Doors are a perfect medium for a street artist wanting to display wotk inside.
1) They are similar in dimension to a train panel. 2) You can get them for free out of skips. 3) The 'paint on what you find' and recycle ethos is perfectly demonstrated..... 4) and with a small amount of extra work you can make a legitamate canvass.
Here are a few of mine:
To make the doors into canvases: 1) find some discarded doors- they need to be flat surface- no beveling or surface joinery..the cheap hollow ones are the best for hanging. But any will do really. Skips on industrial estates are a rich source 1) strip off one side leaving one flat surface and the frame of the door behind. You might need a knife or flat edged tool for this depending on door. You are just trying to make it as light as possible at this stage while maintaining the flat paintable surface
2) Get some muslin and stick it to the door using PVA glue and water. Make sure you stretch it our with no creases.
3)Mix up some white emulsion and PVA glue.
4) Paint (prime) the surface with this mixture. Let it dry and paint. Be careful not to get dirt or hair on the surface (nitemare later on)
5) let it dry then paint! There you have a massive canvass which would prob cost you ยฃยฃยฃยฃยฃs in the shops
