Shipping overseas , VAT question, by wave on Dec 18, 2008 19:29:03 GMT 1, If i recieve something from across the pond to London and no money has passed hands. i.e. pay for it when it arrives. Will i still pay import duty as technically it really is a gift.
Or is it the value insured that determines the charge?
What's the best way to receive a high value item without risk of excess charges?
Also, Its not a 'limited' edition with no hand finishing so its technically not an original too so can't pass off the 5% rule.
Anyone? ;D

Shipping overseas , VAT question, by curiousgeorge on Dec 18, 2008 19:35:01 GMT 1, I believe gifts can still have charges applied, else i would be getting gifted Carl Zeiss glass on a weekly basis.
If the item came from the UK way back and VAT was paid and can be proved then it will have no charges applied.
Put some more info up here or in PM, best to PM ways of avoiding duties etc IMHO
