So where did it all go wrong?, by bert on Dec 16, 2008 13:20:30 GMT 1, it went wrong around 2 months ago, when people started speculating about Santas Ghetto, where is it going to be, whats going to be released - the money side comes out. Nola release case in example - the lurkers and leeches coming out of the woodwork - the instant flippers. However this isnt the norm on this site - it is the norm around Banksy releases. There have been some fantastic discussions and points of view and some great art put on display - once the Banksy furore dies down, conversations about art will resurface. Its the evolution of this site, its an unpleasant part of it, but the maturer, more level headed people, need to stick around, and let it run its course. Thats my tuppence worth
Good post.
I get annoyed with some of the twats on here who never seem to think first before posting their idiotic views...they also seem to have verbal diarhorrea too, but you get that on pretty much every forum (and in real life too).
Whilst not every thread may be a gem, there is plenty of information and interesting and informed posters to keep me coming back to read and post.

So where did it all go wrong?, by gbh on Dec 16, 2008 13:38:41 GMT 1, you do all know that this is approximately post number 527 on exactly the same subject? These exact discussion come up around every big release. things calm down, people move on, lurkers and flippers disappear (for a while), the forum recovers.....a bit...a few members leave....then we do it all over again.....
the forum is continually evolving, good or bad is your call.

So where did it all go wrong?, by Studiocromie on Dec 16, 2008 13:44:20 GMT 1, It used to be about art discussions and having fun with people who shared the same interests. This place is now a trading post, gallery frontage and artists soapbox. This forum hasnt made me laugh for many months, I cant say more than that really.
isnt it normal in a forum history to get boring at some point?
i was used to be a member of collectivezine (uk punk hc mboard) or vivalavynil (american one) sceneboot (italian one) and they all got weird after a bit. then better again, then weird again... it's kinda normal i guess. isnt it? a

Hear hear..Although even the speculation gets on your tits, prior to the two months of Santas Ghetto there was about 6 months of 'aww when are POW going to release...' gets on your tits after a while..anyone would think this was a banksy forum not an art discussion forum..
I also think that the creation of money spoilt a lot of things...what happened to the days of bartering with corn dollies and stinging nettles..

why do you always have to bring it down to moron level again, can you not join in a discussion without resorting to stupid remarks. This thread was geared to bring a sense of rationality and subjectivity to this place.

So where did it all go wrong?, by Existencil on Dec 16, 2008 14:57:26 GMT 1, The change happened when new members joined just to talk about money. In the old days, there were people who talked about money, but they also contributed sincere art discussion. If you look back at the posts of various fairly new members, all you see is money talk and bitching. It's OK now and again, but not 100% of the time.

So where did it all go wrong?, by Daniel Silk on Dec 16, 2008 15:04:27 GMT 1, The forums seem to go through cycles People join and post for a year or maybe two before getting bored. During that time they talk about anything and everything until they start going over and over the same things New people join and they ask questions that have been answered so many times before that the older members get pissed off. To start with people are happy to chat about all sorts of art, but as time goes on they only want to talk about, and only for others to talk about art/artists that they like this causes friction.
New people come, old people go, the forum goes on! ;D

So where did it all go wrong?, by mcster on Dec 16, 2008 15:07:35 GMT 1, It's not just the forum that's changed, it's the whole scene. Like anything that gains popularity at a quick pace it picks up a lot of dicks and people only interested in making cash on the way. I've lost out on every single Banksy that has been released since 2006 (although my ex managed to bag us a colour trolleys) and I wonder where all these people buying them were before then? Time will tell whether a lot of forum members have any real love for the art they've bought and that'll be when the next scene breaks. Whatever that will be.

So where did it all go wrong?, by I like pictures on Dec 16, 2008 15:15:34 GMT 1, The M word doesn't matter to me i have none. If i like a print i will try and buy it, frame it and put it on the wall. If it's a Banksy I'll try like everyone to buy it. I won't succed but I won't bitch about it or the print house that released it. I'll just try again next time and hope i get lucky before Mr B decides to jack it all in because he's as fed up with all the crap that goes with his releases. If i can't get a print from source then the secondary market is the only place left to get one i'll put a value to a print that i'm prepared to pay and if the prints are selling for more than that then i won't buy. I brought tickets for the raffle and didn't expect to win but knew at least i'd given to a worthy cause and atleast had a chance. I missed the on-line release last night and don't care, as far as I was concerned the prints were all gone. Well done to those that got one, better luck next time to those like myself who didn't.
