POW Front Page, by mcster on Dec 10, 2008 18:45:25 GMT 1, I've just seen this on the POW front page:
Thanks to everyone who made the open day such a partial success. Sightsavers banked £24,406.61 from lottery ticket sales, so many of you were very generous. All lottery ‘winners’ will be notified by noon Friday.
Noon Friday? Maybe all haven't been notified yet, otherwise why would this appear in the last hour? Some of us may still be lucky ;D

No, I've been at work where I can't access the forum. Are you going to explain what you mean, or do I have to guess?

Sorry it was a joke...im guessing they have to wait the 48 hours that people have been given, before they can re-draw the remaining prints

POW Front Page, by johnmac52 on Dec 10, 2008 18:54:19 GMT 1, I just had an e-mail from POW in regards t opicking my print up, and was told that I have to have the confirmation by tomorrow morning, so I presume that all that aren't confirmed by then will go back in the raffle.

Judging by what I heard I expect that refers to the hassles of running the Saturday

Probably just a joke, although I have a feeling it didn't turn out quite as they'd hoped. Bit stressful for all involved, and not the street party we all wanted, maybe!?

I agree it prob was not what they imagined as sat was basically just a big line outside the street and very little else...couple of people putting up work but not many no real "party" atomosphere but i guess they have learnt some lessons for next year!!!

Of course they will.
If you had the chance to pay £10 for a £50 note would you say no? I think not. They will all go, but not for the love of art in ever case unfortunately.

POW Front Page, by Happy Shopper on Dec 10, 2008 19:29:47 GMT 1, Big trouble was that at the back of the queue we didn't even know what we were queueing for! If I was told it was to go into the shop, but there were other stalls outside, and you could buy your lottery tickets there, I wouldn't have bothered queueing... and loads other wouldn't have either. Just needed someone to come down the line and tell people.

POW Front Page, by doublehelix on Dec 10, 2008 19:41:17 GMT 1, POW might have had Joshua Compston's 1993 art event 'A Fete Worse Than Death' in mind which put Hoxton on the map when they conceived the open day, it fell well short of that landmark event.
"Compston was a pivotal personality in the Shoreditch art scene of the mid 1990s, until his death at the age of 25 in March 1996. An enigmatic figure, his great creative energy was the driving force of his life, art his weapon. His lasting success has been to bring together a group of artists now at the forefront of the London art scene. Yet Compston¹s attempt to establish a 'capitalism of the avant garde' foundered, in part due to an inability to recognise the implications of his ambitious schemes. In 1992 Joshua Compston set up Factual Nonsense, a 'gallery and project centre' in Charlotte Road in Hoxton, in a Victorian furniture factory. From this space he organised a whirlwind seven openings in six months and began to feel the existence of a community, giving him the confidence he needed to organise 'Fete worse than Death', the first of many local events. This took place in the streets around Factual Nonsense, a mile away from Sarah Lucas and Tracey Emin¹s 'The Shop' in Bethnal Green.
The list of participants reads like a Who¹s Who of young British art Tracey Emin, Gillian Wearing, Matt Collishaw, Gavin Turk, Gilbert & George, Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume, Damian Hurst, Angus Fairhurst, Jessica Voorsanger, Sue Webster and Tim Noble, Molly Nyman, Hannah Greenway." Taken from: No Fun Without You The Art of Factual Nonsense by Jeremy Cooper

I get the £24,406 , but the 61 pence?
Oh yes conrats to POW despite the slight issues, a worthy and worthwhile event. Sadly I failed to get a sniff of any of the raffle prints, but did come away with a Eelus and Xenz ( not to metion the Nola I bought the other week ).
Well done to the winners though.
