Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by boholstvictor on Nov 26, 2008 20:30:23 GMT 1, Hello Board,
I would like to have your opinion on the following: I have a very nice piece of wall which is from a torn down building in Berlin. The motiv is "love is in the air". I would of course want pest control to authenticate it but from what I understand they do not authenticate street-work. I do however feel that Banksys will must be to preserve his art and not destroy it. If pest control were to authenticate it I could lend it to a few museums that have shown interest and it could be shown to public again. WHATS THE BOARDS OPINION ON THIS ?

Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by otomi on Nov 26, 2008 22:51:23 GMT 1, I rather see Banksy do new stuff instead of old stuff in the museum. Street art gets destroyed it's part of it. (it's also a good part of it)
Thinking about it Banksy put some of his stuff in a museum himself.

Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by They call me Stephen on Nov 26, 2008 23:09:27 GMT 1, Excuse my ignorance but surely you only want this authenticated for monetary reasons right??
Iโm sure if a museum really wanted this piece (which i would love to see a photo of as it sounds amazing), they would know that banksy street pieces cannot and will not be authenticated by pest control.
The only reason i see in getting in authenticated is so that it can be sold for profit. At present no one can be sure if it is real so it has no definite value, this of course changes once it is deemed the real deal.
pest control don't authenticate street work as it is meant for the streets and not to line peopleโs pockets. if they did every single street piece banksy did would be taken down and sold on (itโs not too far off that at the moment )
I would rather see banksyโs work buffed that removed and sold by greedy, profiteering individuals
Just my 2 cents of course

Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by boholstvictor on Nov 27, 2008 20:16:00 GMT 1, I just bought it so I relly havent had the time to lend it yet. I have been in discussioons before with them with regards to other banksy works that I was on my way buying. I really like the piece and I am happy to have bought it. Of course authenticating it ould make it worth more. I do however genuinly feel that it would be good if more people could see it. I also really feel that whomever saved it from being thrashed when the building was torn down did a good job for the afterworld. Iยดm a collector mainly of photos which I also from time to time lend to exhibitions. I think that is good for both the people that get to see them and myself. In Sweden where I live I can assure you that Banksys works are hard to come by and especially originals.

I am not a fan of the salvaging/removing of street pieces but if all this is true Hans,I wish you well.

They will never authenticate it, if they did they would just be admiting the fella in the pics is Banksy .... so I dont think you will ever make the money your hoping for.

Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by boholstvictor on Nov 27, 2008 20:42:40 GMT 1, I dont know what pics you are referring to ? My piece is just a 50 by 30 cm "love is in the air" and no banksy in sight so they wouldnt admit to anything other than that he made it.

Banksy Original "Love is in the air"wallfragment, by cutty on Nov 28, 2008 5:56:11 GMT 1, Mate this piece was on Ebay about 8-10 months ago(not 100% on the date) and sold for around ยฃ50. I had it saved in my ebay, seems to have expired.
I think the first time I saw this it said it was from Hackney or Old Street. Same old story! So good luck trying to sell it again.
Is this yours as well? 180307269904 Same story here, was on sale on the Bay around 8-10 months ago. Found near Old Street etc. Don't think this one sold.
Mate your keen!

Yep. Saw it on ebay too. It didn't have many bids on it and went for around ยฃ50 for sure. Did you just pay $8k for this Hans? Honestly, don't bother with these type of pieces. They are almost impossible to authenticate.
In addition, pieces getting covered/tagged/painted is part and parcel of street art and part of an artists development. Take photos of pieces to ensure longevity, don't chisel the wall out and stick it in plexiglass! The nature of of this type of work is that it stays on the wall for a while and people passing get to enjoy it while it lasts. When it's gone, it's gone!
