More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by phoenixlune on Dec 4, 2008 12:13:24 GMT 1, So with Interest rates set to be cut, More economic gloom is coming. Like all we have indulged too much, buying too much art, the thing is when the mortage paymetns are looming and you need food and heting, what art pieces will you be forced to sell to survive?
what pieces will you sell?

More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by Deleted on Dec 4, 2008 12:31:44 GMT 1, Like all we have indulged too much, buying too much art Speak for yourself. I've never bought a thing on credit, so I have no need to sell any of my cars or art I'm pretty pissed off tbh that those who live within their means are penalised while the numptys who borrow way beyond their means get bailed out over and over again by the Government, at taxpayer's expense.
merry xmas to you too

More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by phoenixlune on Dec 4, 2008 13:16:24 GMT 1, mate the whole economy is going under next year, and when you are sacked and have no money you will have to sell things! i have got my keepers and my sellers, but the art market will be massively hit, it is always the case and the only thing that will hold their values are originals , prints will not so if you are minted you will be able to pick up a bargain. i unfortunatly unlike most people on this forum do not have an infinite bank balance or rich parents and so i am just being realistic

More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by doublehelix on Dec 4, 2008 13:19:32 GMT 1, Never had a credit card, spend within my means, all work framed on wall not squirreled away in folders under the bed, never sold a piece, so don't think I'll be starting any time soon.

Oh, I can just imagine an empty willow street with the tumbleweed blowing down it on Saturday, not.

More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by silvermyn on Dec 4, 2008 13:49:03 GMT 1, mate the whole economy is going under next year, and when you are sacked and have no money you will have to sell things! I don't have an infinite bank balance, and i earn less than the UK minimum wage. I live within my means. so i have no desire nor need to sell anything, all the artwork I've ever bought is hanging on my wall for me to enjoy (apart from Splash, which is currently at the framers ) I'm actually hoping to pick up some works cheap if people are forced to sell. The company i work for is in massive growth, over the last 18 months we've seen a 40% upturn in sales, so no fear of impending job losses. not everyone is in the same situations phoenixlune.
Wow! Does your company consolidate all those tricky loans into one easy monthly payment...? ;D

More economic gloom to come: what will you sell?, by Heavyconsumer on Dec 4, 2008 14:29:02 GMT 1, My close friends back in the UK, all seem to be getting lucky and performing very well in business at the moment. It's certainly not everybody who's in the same boat yet. Thing is that if a depression does eventually become the scenario, well the clue is in the name. No one wants to live in that type of an environment and in the modern day, where society is far more depraved than in previous eras (imo), who knows how bad things could get socially, as a result of wider-spread poverty...? There is no doubt that the next year or perhaps two will be testing times for many, but hopefully that's all that we're looking at and not something much more severe and longer term.
In answer to the original question, I'd sell all the art I have (a modest collection compared to many here), if it were in my family's interests. Food, mortgage payments and healthcare come before pretty walls for me and I'm sure it would for all of you guys too.
