Silky - a personal appeal......, by 8anksy on Nov 20, 2008 1:32:10 GMT 1, Silky - this is a personal appeal - from one seasoned forum member to the forum creator.
Over the last few weeks we have seen the departure of a few decent forum members, members who are passionate about what others (us!) are interested in. Members who share their knowledge, their views, and their opinions.
You seem to have allowed one certain member - who shall remain nameless - but we all know exactly who he is, to have taken over. Its like a school bully scenario. I dont know if allowed is the right word for it, but it seems this certain member has the free speach others dont have, it also seems like he has alot of free time on his hands!
There are people here who support you and appreciate what you are doing by maintaining this forum, but you have to admit, this forum is becoming less and less about the art, and more a soapbox for a certain member to express his views..... Perhaps you should give him a masterclass so he can create his own forum/blog -
There we go - I've expressed an opinion - and I'm fully expecting a (Removed) of abuse for it.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by Joe J on Nov 20, 2008 6:35:29 GMT 1, I read through this forum everyday... I can often sift through all the political bull and still enjoy myself and gain more knowledge. I don't understand all of these problems people are having, it all seems very immature to me.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by moleman on Nov 20, 2008 7:02:51 GMT 1, I hear the question silky but i dont think that people have left because of the said reason only. There has been some garbage on here for one but that is life and two with the art world not being so profitable at the mo people are not as happy so gripe at each other because of it. But and its one to think about he didnt ban them or have the power to mediate them as you do. I dont know why all left or what they did but i think from the comments you got when they come back you may be partially to blame. A better thread maybe come on lets be honest and ask the others who left what and why they think is wrong. As much as some people are a pain in the arse if the world was full of nice people it would be boring perhaps a little word in the ear or a yellow card would help as limiting people and what they say is not very nice either

Silky - a personal appeal......, by mcster on Nov 20, 2008 8:41:03 GMT 1, I don't agree with limiting posts, or even banning people unless it's something really out of order. I've hardly been on the forum for the last few weeks and don't actually know which member this is about, but if I think someone is talking cack or liking the sound of their own voice (keyboard) too much I just ignore them.

I try not to take anything said on these forums more than just typed words in a box, if you don't like what you're reading then move on.... It's actually pretty simple

Yep but it was sh!t and he soon got bored (shame) when he realised no one was logging on to listen to him spout crap.
I think it was called www.thefartsmeller.info or something.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by gm on Nov 20, 2008 9:14:05 GMT 1, I've recently been banned on another forum for speaking out against "post throttling" for certain members (not me, btw).
Can't condone it there, can't condone it here. If there's going to be a maximum number of posts per day it should apply to ALL members, not just a select one or two.
I don't know who this particular poll here refers to (am I missing something?) and I'm not going to put a vote on this poll because I don't like the way the choices are worded.

I agree but that would be the death of this forum.. I'm not sure who this is about and will not be voting.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by seidbereit on Nov 20, 2008 10:28:33 GMT 1, This all seems a little pathetic to me, to be brutally frank.
I really don't understand why some forum members appear unable to simply employ the method described by photoxtc above - a method I personally also find very effective.
Silky, you keep adding all these pretty little gadgets to the site such as the map and flashing envelopes for new PMs and what not, so maybe it's time to add an ignore button just like 99% of all other forums in the world.
The mere existence of an ignore button should render ALL threads such as this one completely pointless and put them straight at the top of your list of things to delete mercilessly and without further comment.
Give it a try.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by mcnuts on Nov 20, 2008 10:36:00 GMT 1, the other way around this is to have, like they do on wallkandy a "red button" which allows you to ignore people. On the flip side, it is just the internet and I do have to feel sorry for those who only get their source of power in life through bullying, being a know it all or even trying to be flash on the internet in an effort to prove themselves or compensate otherwise.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by seidbereit on Nov 20, 2008 10:46:13 GMT 1, Is the red button on wk a one shot option? i.e. once you put someone on ignore, they stay on ignore? If so that's exaclty what's wanted. A lot of other forums seem to allow to you put someone on ignore but people then seem unable to help themselves and repeatedly undo the ignore function just to see what so-and-so has been up to with the result that they get themselves all freshly wound up and start griping again.

Silky - a personal appeal......, by flypitcher on Nov 20, 2008 11:15:02 GMT 1, The reason that people swear and abuse other members on the forum is that they are generally unhappy with their life , it is called burden displacement. They resort to becoming typo thugs or keyboard gangsters. But a good set of rules that you could adapt SILKY :
1.) Please refrain from making physical threats of any kind toward another board member. This guideline applies to the personal messages (PMs) as well.
2.) Please refrain from calling another board member or a group of members insulting names. This guideline applies to the personal messages (PMs) as well.
3.) No posting of sexually explicit pictures. Links to extreme sexual, gore or grotesque images are also not appropriate for this site.
4.) Please refrain from making ethnic, racial, sexist, homophobic or religious slurs. This includes using biblical references to preach hate or condemnation. Please refrain from making racist or bigoted comments.
5.) Evangelizing people to your faith whether Christian, Muslim, or whatever is also prohibited. Signatures with Scripture references are fine, but do NOT try and proactively persuade people to your religious orientation through the forums.
6.) Please refrain from airing your personal disagreements or relationship drama on the board. If you have beef with another member, please work it out offline.
7.) Using the PM's to personally attack or harass someone is not allowed
9.) Please respect a member's right to have a serious discussion by not hijacking a thread with jokes and funny pictures. Members have the right to moderate (keep the thread on subject) their threads. The closing of threads is subject to the posting guidelines. Once people start posting on your thread they have the right to continue the discussion.
10.) Topics other than Banksy are welcome. Please refrain from flooding the board with topics. Flooding is defined as posting\bumping more than five posts on the main board at a given time. If the posts are party/mix announcements see rule #7. Discussions on religion, politics and race can get heated so keep the dialog going by not resorting to items #1 - #2 above. Agree to disagree .
11.) The mission of this web site and message board is to honor and respect those who have made and are making great contributions to this scene. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Giving your opinion about what you don't like is welcome. Please keep your criticisms and opinions respectful.
12.) Use of multiple logins to the board is not permitted.
13.) Posting private messages (PMs) on the main message board for everyone to read is not allowed. If someone breaks the rules in a PM to you then you can forward that PM to the admins for review and possible action.
14.) Continually posting inflammatory topics (trolling) is not allowed.
15.) Refrain from posting message titles in all caps. Also refrain from using very long displayed names in all caps.
.
17.) This board can get pretty intense at times. If you have a problem with something that was posted please contact an admin and it will be reviewed. You agree to hold the owners harmless with respect to any damages received by participating in this forum.
18.) The last rule: The administrators best judgment is the final call. Translation: The Moderators can do whatever they want. If they want to delete a post, they can. If they want to lock a topic, they can.
If you break these guidelines you may get banned from this site. Bannings are at the discretion of the administrators. Another option the administrators may use is to close the thread that has broken the guidelines.
Below is the notice that you had to read before you were allowed to join the board:

Silky - a personal appeal......, by dmandpenfold on Nov 20, 2008 11:21:26 GMT 1, where did you copy all that from, probably a little over the top we already have rules in the rules section, an ignore button would work much more effectively
The reason that people swear and abuse other members on the forum is that they are generally unhappy with their life , it is called burden displacement. They resort to becoming typo thugs or keyboard gangsters. But a good set of rules that you could adapt SILKY : 1.) Please refrain from making physical threats of any kind toward another board member. This guideline applies to the personal messages (PMs) as well....... ...........Hope this helps you Silky as the forum is becoming less informative and more of a playground joke. I don't think yet I have sweared at someone or abused someone as sticks and stones break my bones but names will never harm me:)
