Throughout history art has been used to display wealth. Often times rich patrons would choose to be painted with some of their favorite possessions or standing looking out over lands that they owned. Take a look at the Arnolfini Wedding Portrait.
And on the more blatantly obvious side... Pop art epitomizes luxury and wealth. Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons, lovers of American Capitalism.
