paypal/ebay, by idris on Oct 12, 2008 23:16:48 GMT 1, paypal & ebay are destroying the selling community by imposing this ridiculous 'payment hold' system. Funds aren't made available after feedback is left, you have ring paypal, who blame ebay & ebay blame paypal.
wht do ppl think?

paypal/ebay, by idris on Oct 12, 2008 23:25:53 GMT 1, If I ever get on the phone to them, I'm gonna end up losing my rag. I've a couple hundred on hold so I can imagine the frustration when the sums a larger. Annoying still is those with rcvd goods are so slow in leaving feedback. The 'system' frankly is a bag of shyte.
Still cannot understand why there is no competitor to ebay & paypal

paypal/ebay, by bullet on Oct 12, 2008 23:28:04 GMT 1, they would not get close if there was another...
another recognised form of payment system would be good but no chance of getting that onto ebay as they own paypal and would not want a competitor on there

paypal/ebay, by Deleted on Oct 12, 2008 23:47:08 GMT 1, "Safe Payments Requirements Last January, Bill announced that all new sellers would be required to offer PayPal or a merchant credit card as a safe payment option. This requirement gives buyers a higher degree of protection when transacting with sellers who have little or no track record.
This year we're expanding this requirement to the following sellers:
* a small number of sellers who have the worst buyer dissatisfaction rates * sellers with less than 100 feedback * sellers who list in certain categories with higher rates of buyer complaints.
Also, for a small number of these transactions paid with PayPal, when eBay suspects the transaction may result in a dissatisfied customer, PayPal will delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute."
Paypal is holding over $700 of my money from an ebay auction in which the buyer has already received the item and left a positive feedback. This new system is really pissing me off. This possibly cannot encourage sellers to use ebay.

paypal/ebay, by Existencil on Oct 12, 2008 23:52:16 GMT 1, It's an awful new development. The seller is out of pocket for goods they've sent and has to wait 21 days for the hold to be removed. Paypal still take they're fee and presumably gain interest for all on hold funds.
It should be illegal...

paypal/ebay, by bigwilly on Oct 13, 2008 6:03:57 GMT 1, always ship with insurance, signature confirmation, and ONLY ship to confirmed paypal addresses. You also have to make sure that your paypal account is upgraded to a business account(it's free). This is the only way paypal will cover sellers for lost, damaged items, fraud etc. And don't link your bank account to your paypal account because if you withdraw the money form paypal. They turn right around and dip into your bank account and freeze your funds if any buyer files a paypal dispute.
PS Ebay is the Devil

if you do this the buyer will leave negative feedback. They have already payed you the money and the funds are in your 'said' account, but paypal freezes the funds till the 1 buyer leaves feedback or 2 you provide tracking info to paypal and then they release the funds to you. This is a result of scumbag scam artists that have ripped people off selling posters. They now view posters as "high risk item" or "possible bootleg poster". Or some people just take your money and never ship the poster. So paypal has come up with the solution to "freeze" the funds till the buyer is happy and leaves feedback, or you can provide a legitimate tracking number form a reputable shipper.
and if you've been a member before 2003 they can not go into your banck account. Don't link your bank account to your paypal account.

paypal/ebay, by manty on Oct 13, 2008 6:19:39 GMT 1, Paypal held ยฃ3.5 k of my money.
Jut before i moved from UK to Oz I sold a few prints that I knew I wouldnt hang in the new house ( and to have a few grand to buy stuff)
Anyhow, they decided because I had recieved more money than usual they would need to do a few more security checks ( my feed back is 200 ish @100% and paypal verified etc etc)
This involved confirming my UK home phone number (I had just moved half way around the world)
Confirming yet again my credit card details, and 2 other security checks that I cant remember.
Having emaild and spoke to them a few times, it took me 13 weeks to get my money out of paypal, even though I had recieved positive feedback from the buyers.
PS

paypal/ebay, by idris on Oct 13, 2008 22:04:28 GMT 1, contacted watchdog - watch this space for further info
I urge all you who are effected to go on to bbc watchdog & submit a complaint. The more who raise this as a problem, the greater the chance the story being featured & paypal/ebay being publically humiliated.
these c**t must be made to pay

Good advice with the Bank Account and one which I have opted to do for a long while. I also don't have a credit card on file either in case they dip into that instead!

I don't think they can make unauthorized charges on your credit card without your acknowledgment.
PS They are both in cahoots with eachother

It seems that Ebay is increasingly squeezing it's sellers out in the cold. Buyers now have far too much power, which I believe is paving the way for Ebay to start charging for buying as well as selling (which most auction houses already do). If you sell on Ebay the change in the feedback system, and any problems that arise from resolving this are ridiculous. Buyers with no feedback can willfully leave negaive feedback, suspending accounts. Ebay solution, to send automated Emails and refuse to deal with on the phone. This Paypal scenario is furthering this influence of buyers, and so open to corruption. Buyer sends funds, funds held, print sent, neg feedback left, funds withdrawn, Ebay member f*cks off with print and funds, sets up another account and repeats ad naseum.

paypal/ebay, by Poppy Sunshine on Oct 14, 2008 8:34:24 GMT 1, Just another way of making money for paypal. Hold a massive account with our money in it gathering interest. It would be interesting to know if this is legal and if the law would make them give you the interest if you asked. I know this can be the case with certain legal situations when solicitors etc are holding money for different reasons but don't know the ins and outs. Any trouble I've ever had with paypal they blame ebay, ebay blame paypal, both deny being part of the other but are inextricably linked. It's all bullshit. Do as I do and fill in any customer satisfaction surveys honestly ie. tell them they are crap and you are not happy.
