before its too late BUY BUY BUY, by worlddomination on Sept 15, 2008 23:14:27 GMT 1, With disarray in the financial markets the safe haven for your money is now the art world, so rather than sell sell sell and loose all the money once you've placed it in a bank that may get wiped out, buy buy buy art, now's the time. That's what's gone on tonight at the Hirst sale, people are moving their money into a better and safer vehicle and they can get some enjoyment out of it too. There's a great auction too soon at Dreweatts, so get ready!!

well not now - they are probably downsizing.
Seriously though if the media and politicians shut the fuck up for once it would calm down

before its too late BUY BUY BUY, by jam on Sept 16, 2008 13:03:33 GMT 1, It wouldn't surprise me to see a large influx of cash into the art market as an alternative to other investments due to the turmoil happening in the finance markets world wide.

before its too late BUY BUY BUY, by G-Man on Sept 16, 2008 13:08:41 GMT 1, People are really nervous because in the main people like to have access to their investments
The art market is one for medium to long term right now IMO as the markets settle in the back end of next year after several interest rate cuts this Winter and the economy recovers through Summer next year
I'm in the BUY BUY BUY club but it's only if you can afford to lock up cash for this period of time

I think that while the "Premier League" artists will see a large amount of investment (see the sums that Bacon, Freud and Hirst have been fetching) i'm not convinced that this will be the same with most, if not all, of the artists associated with urban and street art.
I think people affected by the credit crunch will end up selling their banksy prints etc which will see the price fall, damaging the market rather than improving it.
I guess this topic divides us into "glass half full" and "glass half empty" people. Either way the art on my walls isn't going anywhere any time soon.

before its too late BUY BUY BUY, by andrewd on Sept 16, 2008 14:14:19 GMT 1, All markets are corrected by a period of bust. Prices will go down and go down significantly at some stage. Lots of people will sell art and lose interest in art and this scene. Things will get going again after the economy starts to grow again. That's the way it happens. I'll still be buying paintings in ten years time and I hope alot of forum members will also be buying.
