IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 4:38:31 GMT 1, Would appreciate some feed back!
After re framing several "bad" and "damaging" frame jobs from members on this board, Dale and myself have an idea!
It seems that members often buy framed art with very little idea of the quality of the framing and whether or not the print you are buying has been damaged in the framing process.
We figure that if we offer a "MFM Certificate of Archival Framing" with every piece we frame in the future then this would help buyers and sellers alike to buy or sell with confidence!
What do you think?

How do other framers get this certificate and standard to go by? I think their are a lot of kinks to work out but def sounds sound! peace

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 6:05:33 GMT 1, Thanks for feedback,
Don't think need to worry about what other framers may be doing, everyone knows that if a piece is framed by John Jones then you are pretty safe. Having a MFM Certificate works in the same way as I would like to think that everyone on this forum knows the standard that we work to!
I would like to think that if you were trying to sell a framed image and you said that you had a MFM Certificate for that piece then you could ask a little more for it and your buyer would know that it was going to be "Safe".
Not looking to launch an industry standard or anything - That would be a nightmare!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by pokerdonp on Sept 2, 2008 7:26:57 GMT 1, My framers, do this all ready, they put a big gold sticker on the back of the frame stating what it has been framed with, and to what standard, then signed.
I think it is a great idea, and gives people that extra piece of mind.

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by craigf on Sept 2, 2008 8:16:39 GMT 1, I think a certificate of some sort with details of what the piece has been framed with etc. would be a good idea. A statement from a seller that JJ, Railings or yourself have done the framing is enough for me, but not everyone knows who each company are or the difference between them and their local framers. You may however get some requests to issue retrospective requests for certificates

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by mydeaddogwontwoof on Sept 2, 2008 8:32:43 GMT 1, What if your client gave you a damaged print to frame, i.e tape marks on the back of it or some other damage that can be hidden by the frame, surely this would render the certificate somewhat useless?

Perhaps include on the "MFM Certificate" the state of the print when received! ie: perfect condition when framed, or not as the case may be!
Could also state: Glass used, fixing methods used and any other info you guys consider to be useful.
We had a print for re frame yesterday which had been badly japanese hinged and badly manhandled so dents were left on the sides of the print. The framer had actually put a sheet of glass on top of the print to hide the fact this had occured and then glazed normally in front of the spacers using non ref glass to further hide the damage!

Never really felt the need for anything like this before as we know how damn good we are ;D
However, now doing more and more re frames and didnt realise how bad some framers actually are!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Harveyn on Sept 2, 2008 9:11:45 GMT 1, I think its a great idea Gary. I personally would like it with each piece I get framed (you know what I can be like.... ;D ;D). I think if you stamped the frame with a serial number and then produced a serialized/stamped/embossed/signed certificate indicating the level of framing.
Now can you give me one of each of the frames you have done for me..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Me too!
joking aside any quality craftsman should certify their work so as to allow potential and existing customers: 1. peace of mind 2. a reason to return 3. a reason to come to you in the first place - word of mouth is a great method to build business, this can be complimented with info on the work completed. A good comparison is with technical fabrics on outerwear. You may know of a certain clothing manufacturer due to their reputation, but will be totally sold if you can see the tech specificiations on a hangtag on the garment stating level of breathablility, waterproof resistance etc.
