Russian Problems?, by Deleted on Aug 28, 2008 19:11:55 GMT 1, i think Russia know that there is very little we can actually do about it. Our army's are already spread very thin, and both our economy's are near enough in recession, whilst the Russian's is booming. They can afford war.
We could get the UN to sanction them but that wont do f all. Russia are big players in the world. The UK and the US will publicly warn Russia but do nothing. In a word. Georgia are f**ked. Russia has it's claws out and it wont be stopped.
Just my honest opinion of course.

Yeah! ;D
We have so many more connection with counties such as the Ukraine now that we dint have say 10 years ago. Plus the number of people and businesses from the UK that have moved over there.

Russian Problems?, by Michael Jacob on Aug 28, 2008 21:19:53 GMT 1, There is very little we (the US) can do without the support of the UN and other countries. As mentioned above, Russia has come into countless wealth with their oil. As the US sits, we are tapped out on all fronts, be it military or financial. Regardless of our next President, I think tougher times are yet to come. We need to reevaluate how we operate internally as a country, instead of always worrying about our external appearance. Its time to pay the piper...

Russian Problems?, by Cocteau 101 on Aug 28, 2008 21:44:54 GMT 1, I heard on the radio an ex Kremlin insider stating that Russia are far too heavily reliant on Europe to take this too far and he thought it was merely posturing on both the Russian and US sides.

Russian Problems?, by ikkeno on Aug 29, 2008 1:05:19 GMT 1, Its a complex situation, but it follows the familiar recepie of; wanting control over territories because of strategic advantages and offcourse over resources...money and power basicaly, money=power, power=money etc...
I dugg up a video I remember wathing a few weeks ago when the conflict started
www.liveleak.com/view?i=8bf_1218721868
I belive it somewhat summarizes what the russians belive to be the truth about the conflict/story...
(btw, I havent had time or interest lately to follow this conflict so I havent decided yet on what side I stand and where I should put the blame, so please dont start ranting about me supporting the opinions presented in this vid or anyother for that matter, I dont, Im only using it as an example)
If its one thing ive learnt over the years following international politics/conflicts/finances its that theirs allways atleast two sides of the story, and both are most often equaly belivable, but truth is a relative term so...

gotta agree with slowmo..Russia's spent that last hundred years in decay and oppression under one self serving gangster or another, today is no different. A lot of chest beating by a crumbling backward state held together purely by the glue of oil, how longs that going to last.

Russian Problems?, by shaunyboy on Aug 31, 2008 10:51:34 GMT 1, If South Ossetia want to be an independent country then they should be able to be so.
As I understand the situation most of the 70,000 people in South Ossetia are in fact Russian and want to be a part of Russia or at the very least have complete autonomy over their own country, free from Georgia's interference.
Lets have another referendum, lets have another majority saying they do not want to be a part of Georgia and let's have the world accept this reality.

If giving people Russia passports makes them Russian. Also, does the same apply to Chechnya if it wants to break away from Russia.

Thats normally how it works and if the majority in Chechnya want to break away from Russia. What do you think?
