Lack of handfinishing, larger print run, and not as strong an image as most of the MB prints that command top dollar IMO.
An Invisible Man print (arguably their weakest of the limited prints) went for $400 I think recently. Well below what Carrot, WAOD, TRYHO get regularly.

Give it time. If you remember the bun fight for this, there are a lot of people that really do like this print and I think it will prove to be a future MB classic even as a 100 edition.
Personally i'm glad that they are selling around cost or below at the moment. I wish scary mail was still at this price (which it was).
Been said many times but true. Don't buy anything unless you like it.

Why do people hate the miss bugs PE dumbo print?, by themightyreds on Jun 13, 2008 22:40:10 GMT 1, i still don't know why everyone gets the size wrong when selling these. They are not 50x70 prints, even though thats what they were sold as.

Why do people hate the miss bugs PE dumbo print?, by scavos on Jun 13, 2008 22:57:53 GMT 1, I recently saw the full set framed up in simple back frames mounted on a silver board in the window at Art Republic in Brighton. I couldn't believe how good they looked. They are three of many pieces that no photo I have seen has ever done justice. They look muddled and too busy in photos but framed up in the flesh, they come alive and the way the silver jumps out at you is very effective. They are also printed on a lovely thick black plike rubbery paper that feels like nothing else and smells like 20 POW tubes full of paint! Lovely. The Dumbo and Bambi images didn't work for me on the pdf for the Miss Bugs show but in the flesh they looked well sweeeeet and twisted. It really is irrelevant if these three prints come up or down in value in terms of 'flipper fodder', (you saw it here first folks ;D). If you're not sure, see a set in the flesh and then decide. As with everything, it's down to personal taste. If you like it and can afford, buy. If not, don't.

You're wrong, the most recent IM on the bay was ยฃ255, the one before it went for over ยฃ800.
I don't thing the Dumbo is such a poor image, so much as colour is normally a major feature of MB's work, that is missed in that image. The larger print run made it available to lots of flippers too(runs of 30 to 100 + another batch of PE collab' pieces is quite a jump in supply). It's to be expected really imo. People on here who like the work, post and converse about it and next thing you know flippers are all over it. None of them buy to keep the piece, so to them, selling at a loss is better than being stuck with a print they never wanted in the first place. So long as you like yours and are happy with it, who cares anyway?

What was I so wrong about? $400 and ยฃ255 aren't too far apart I wasnt aware of the ยฃ800 one though. Insane!
I like the Dumbo, I have the set and have had no intentions of selling it..... BUT, I do prefer Diamond, WOAD and TRYHO. Personally those three are the pinnacles of Miss Bugs prints to date.
I agree with most of your points!

I'm sorry if I was unduly aggressive, it was unintentional. I think of the ยฃ/$ as 1-2, but I don't keep track closely and you're probably right, it most likely was a reasonable guestimate!
I think that the only thing proven by the last few sale-prices of any of MB's images, is that the market is volatile, and there isn't enough demand to provide a stable level of support for pricing, if that makes sense.
I would actually like the Dumbo image myself, but the littlun has "Dumbo Complex." I am even guilty of winding her up about it at times with jokes about flying to school and such. ;D I wouldn't do that if her ears were very big of course (she has quite normal ears really), it's just a silly paranoia she'll get over. But the big boss said "no Dumbo images are hitting our walls." So it was said, so it shall be done, or not as the case may be!

Why do people hate the miss bugs PE dumbo print?, by discoduster on Jun 14, 2008 5:22:26 GMT 1, This print just leaves a sour taste in my mouth from remembering the way it was shabbily sold.
A couple of us were trying to do the honest thing by not purchasing until onsale "officially" at stated time even though they were available online and when tried to purchase at that time they'd all gone.
So I sure as fuck aint gonna pay over cost for one now, I'll keep my eye out for a cheap one on ebay.

Why do people hate the miss bugs PE dumbo print?, by Montubu7 on Jun 14, 2008 11:29:47 GMT 1, This guy is a well respected member on here who is selling some of his personal collection due to a change in circumstances. I hardly think someone with the collection he has is all that bothered about flipping and more so clearing up space for a change in the forseeable future.

Hi mate, not sure if your post was meant for me, but just to clarify (as I did mention flipping), I was not suggesting that any one person had or hadn't bought to flip, I was simply addressing the original question raised, in the opening post of the thread.
