What advice would you give in this situation? , by Guest on Jun 17, 2008 1:15:40 GMT 1, Kind of curious how the lot here would handle an email like this that I just got from an upset father...
Dear Jet Set Group,
I have a 22 year old son who has been in trouble with the law for tagging walls around the Cleveland Ohio area. I'm frustrated and supportive of his work, but feel he needs to express himself legally on canvas versus private citizens property. My plea, could you possibly review his work and offer him an apprenticeship? I'm sure he would work for free for a period of time, I don't want him to end up jail or prison. Please help me.
Desperate,
Brian 330-XXX-8X1X

I wonder who else the desperate father sent similar messages to? Maybe he's the one in need of an 'apprenticeship'?

thank you for your email. I'm enclosing contact details for Sir Alan Sugar as it sounds like your son is just the sort of candidate he'll be looking for on his next series, in fact he sounds like a winner.
Many thanks JSG
PS. there's no difference between jail and prison.

technically, jail is short term, around a year, prison could be lifelong. for the day job, i go to both to see clients.
i would work with the kid, keep him off the streets (at least until he's good), nothing worse than bad tagging...trust me, i live in the LBC, bad tagging is EVERYWHERE....very little creativity....

The thing is if you're good enough (ala Banksy) you don't seem to get in trouble for it. So my advice would be to become better at what you do.

What advice would you give in this situation? , by Guest on Jun 17, 2008 16:14:01 GMT 1, I agree with pretty much everyone on here...
This is the thing. The 22yr. old IS the father, and he spent 180 days in county for Graffiti and Breaking Parole last fall. Now he's trying to get his shit together and move forward with his life.
His story is a dime a dozen. His artwork is crap. He is little more than a red-neck street thug with a can of paint, as far as I can tell.
I told him to just continue doing what he loves to do, and be productive and constructive with his actions. I told him that he needs to give his work some context to be able to reach people. I have no idea how the guy got my name or contact info. I'd like to think that I maintain a pretty low profile.
Oh, and here in the USA; Jail generally refers to town or county lock-up, and prison is state or federal; where the big boys party.
Finally, I'm here in Vegas, and he's in Ohio. How the hell can I give him a job? What was he thinking?

What advice would you give in this situation? , by Guest on Jun 17, 2008 17:42:41 GMT 1, Yes, Jake is in Ohio, called me this morning to see if there was anything he could do to help! What a great guy.
I gave him the convicted artist's name and number, and told him that he could call him if he wants to help or give some advice or something...
Was really impressed with Crazy Jake this morning. Definitely someone who's looking out for the best interest of the community!
