looking for first print...please advise, by jB on Jun 15, 2007 5:07:50 GMT 1, Probably the newest member here and don't know much about this board, however can't imagine there is a better place to find info than here.
Please let me know if anyone has a print for sale. Looking for anything! Signed or unsigned, old or new.
Or if I'm dreaming with this post, can someone advise as to where to go and how I can possible get one in the future.
Thanks everyone, hopefully you aren't shaking your heads in disgrace with this feed.

looking for first print...please advise, by dog byte on Jun 15, 2007 6:41:56 GMT 1, welcome to the board jason....
are you looking to buy as an investment or because you love the artwork? are you looking for something to hang on your wall or keep stored under your bed? hopefully its something for your wall and in that case i would do some reasearch and decide which prints are your favorites. yes, the investment factor does exist and the print may or may not go up in value. if you love the art and get pleasure from seeing it you really have much less to lose....
hard to say if you are dreaming when i don't know what you are looking to spend on a print. if you are looking to spend market value on a signed or unsigned print you are not dreaming at all.

looking for first print...please advise, by streetgirl on Jun 15, 2007 12:21:26 GMT 1, Hey Jason, I'm a relative newcomer here also, but in the space of a few short weeks feel like I've had a crash course in not just the revered Mr B, but art (past, present & future) as a whole. As per dogbyte's post, you kind of need to have a feeling of what you want, the reason you want it and how much you have to spend. There are plenty of forum members looking to trade & sell on here and they are always more than reasonable (compared to ebay). I posted a request and like a moth to a flame I now have the print I wanted and er, several others I had no idea about a few weeks ago. Or are you just looking to get a general feel of what things cost right now?

looking for first print...please advise, by paulsammax on Jun 15, 2007 19:54:16 GMT 1, Hi Jason. I'm a newcomer too. I was looking for my 1st Banksy and after reading the forum posts felt comfortable enough to part with ยฃ600 for an unsigned Morons. Not a lot around now for below ยฃ500 unless of course you are willing to wait for the next POW release (when oh when???). Buy what you like and if you are buying off ebay, check the completed listings to get a feel for what the going rate is there.Make sure that you are comfortable with authenticity. There's a lot of fakes out there. The guys on this forum are wonderful and will help you out there. Good luck!

looking for first print...please advise, by tomhills1 on Jun 15, 2007 20:23:45 GMT 1, for a start jason, hello, there aren't a lot of fakes, just a lot of people who look to decieve genuine buyers with listings for prints which don't exist.
if you have around ยฃ500+ to buy a print then you are halfway there. if that is your maximum, then maybe wait until the next release and try your luck, if not, then look to the secondary market.
before you spend a bean, be dead set on what you want first, then worry about the money and if need be, meet yourself in between with a happy medium of both.
once you decide a top 3/5, start looking on here and ebay for what's available, don't take the first print to come your way, have a long considered look at approximate values and then look to make yourself a deal, fortune favours the brave.
remember though, current sales figures are one thing, what you're prepared to pay is another. if it seems expensive or even more so, would bankrupt you if it's value dropped, don't bother. if you can match the asking price and don't mind no appreciation or even a small loss, then you're in it for the right reasons and you're buying without prejudice, so you'll always be happy.
values go up as well as down, remember that. just be very cautious and any concerns, come and ask on here and try to guage opinion as to whether or not to splash the cash.
good luck and let us all know how you go. be sure to get any prints framed (properly) and give us all a gander my old mucker!

looking for first print...please advise, by jB on Jun 15, 2007 23:19:24 GMT 1, Thanks a bunch to you all. This is exactly what I needed to get started.
Just a quick story about all of this, my brother has been a fan for years of Banksy's work (he even replicated one of his stencils and sprayed it on the floor of our garage in 2001 of the elephant with the bomb) and opened my eyes a whole new world. I have enjoyed his work and always appreciated for what he has stood for. But until recently thought actually owning a piece wasn't possible without taking apart a building with me. I didnt really even think about prints until I went on to ebay and typed in Banksy and there was a 6000 USD moron piece. That's when I did some research and found you all.
I don't want a piece to resell, I don't care what it looks like or if it's signed or not. I just want a piece that I can look at each morning and appreciate (as cheesy as it may sound, but it's the truth). Like many of you all, I have other things I need to take care of, and 6000 dollars could do much more for me.
Is there any thing in my price rang of $700-$1000? Anything at all? Hell, i'll frame it even if a dog has chewed through...and i am for real too, although i'd rather not!
And as for new prints, how are you lucky enough to get those?
Thanks again everyone. -J.braun-

looking for first print...please advise, by mickg on Jun 16, 2007 1:56:15 GMT 1, Keep checking ebay or start a thread here stating exactly what you are after. I think J&J might now be too expensive for you but as Carlito suggested Virgin Mary is a good call - early but undervalued print as it isn't popular, but one of his famous images - and Flags (big edition so prices are stable) and Grannies are also a good place to start.

i see there's an unframed, unsigned j+j already over ยฃ800 with over a day to go... on the bay

looking for first print...please advise, by dgb133 on Jun 16, 2007 20:39:57 GMT 1, But at least you have a cool avatar.
Just buy a stencil or two and make your own reproductions. To the uninitiated they'll look just as cool. If you do a good job...
I want them all too but will probably only be able to afford one or two Banksy prints ...unsigned. :-(

A friend of mine is being forced to part with his Toxic Mary. It's just gone on the bay today:

Good luck!
