Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by dinomaa on May 30, 2008 1:28:44 GMT 1, Will never go to them again. Sold most of the prints before the first person walked in the door. Cue in the rain for hours - get nothing. I will never step foot in that cowboy half arsed establishment again. Feel so sorry for the people that travelled hundreds of miles and cued for hours to not get what they wanted.
Make people cue up for hours then they will buy the only things left. WHAT!
Argghh so rubbish!
If someone can explain how the numbered ticket/cue worked let me know.

It seemed to be eplainede quite simply on another thread. Some people qued from 2am this monrning so instead of making them wait outside all day they gave theme tickets to go to the front of the que at night. Many gallerys use the system and no1ns complained before, what you need to realise is you would have missed out on a print either way as the people had techniqually joined the que before you.
Im shaw BRP did something similar ??

At brp they sold 75 of the 76 prints available, at opus in my estimate 14 of 15 of the T&T's 20+ of the red geishas were already sold. Very little left for people that queued for hours.

You obviously were not in that cue! the numbered tickets meant very little - people with tickets in the high 50's still got to buy in the first 15 - not that they had much left to buy from as it had all sold the night before.

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by Winter on May 30, 2008 20:16:24 GMT 1, I have bought some nice Peter Blake pieces in the past and have dealt with Emma Poole at Opus. The loveliest person I have come across in the art business. Opus underground seem to think it is the thing to do to put on such a show in Brick lane (though they're based in Newcastle) and create a 'buzz'. It's not cool and they screwed up. It has affected their brand and reputation and most importantly upset members of this forum. Like it or not this forum carries a fair bit of weight and worryingly quite a few artists are made or broken on here.

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by Natas on May 30, 2008 20:41:04 GMT 1, I think everyone deserves a second chance but then I wasn't one of the people standing in the rain for prints that had already been reserved. At least you got to see the primary reason for going..the art!

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by menace2sobriety on May 30, 2008 20:56:04 GMT 1, it does leave a bad taste in the mouth though when you feel you've been treated like a peice if shit
i remember queing for the group show at stolen space to get DFace - what wars are for. had been after the print for months since he did the street peice. Was in the que for about 3-4 hours only to be told that only 2/3 of the print run was on sale, just as i reached the front. will never buy anything from stolen space ever, just because it was shambolic and they seemed as if they didnt give a fuck
wasnt at the hush/copyright show though so cant really comment on that one

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by Blind Angle on May 30, 2008 20:57:06 GMT 1, I was not present at the opening of this show (and neighter have i bought anything from it) so i can only comment on what i have read here. It looks like there are heaps of very angry people that want an explation or apology. I have dealt with Opus in the past and have been very satified with the service and communication. This opening that went so completely tits up comes as a surprise to me. As a friendly advice i would say that Opus Underground should come on to the forum and explain their side of the story or apologise if they see fit.
I think there is still time, but it is slowly ticking away, especially in the eyes of all of those who feel so terribly let down!
Cheers
Ragnar

I agree with Ragnar that is still time to come clean, you [Opus] were on this forum almost everyday to promote this event and now that the shit hit the fan no one comes out to clean it

But then again they wouldn't would they?

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by paulypaul on May 30, 2008 21:37:09 GMT 1, S'funny this - I live 20 minutes walk from Opus. I've bought stuff from them before, take visitors to the gallery, support my local business's, buy local etc etc etc.
Sooo, I emailed Antony and said, do me a favour - I can't make it to London but I'm local, visit you, buy from you - sort me out with a red giesha. He said no. So I rang him and said - are you kidding? You're my local gallery, blah blah blah - reiterated the above and he still said no.
So I told him that was shit and I'd never buy another fucking thing from them ever again...
Seems the reason he couldn't pre-sell me was cos, well, he'd already presold everyone else....
Still, they can stick their gallery up their fucking arse....

If they had stuck to that with everyone else they would now be being praised for a great night rather than being slated as wankers.

Is Ant the owner of opus one or simply an employee / PR guru ?

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by Heavyconsumer on May 31, 2008 0:10:01 GMT 1, Well then Ant didn't set a very good impression with me by ignoring my PM about buying work from abroad! It's the norm' to have some type of email go out to long distance buyers when art goes on offer at some places, at others it's a case of tough t1tties, but to just ignore a PM is plain rude and unprofessional!
EDIT - in fact, it appears from their conspicuous silence today, after very vocally promoting this show on the forum, that they aren't overly fussed about their image and are simply pleased to have sold everything. If that's not the case, it seems they have quite a few bridges to set about mending. To be honest, I can understand people going back to them to buy, because, there's often no alternative source available. However, when artists kep the faith after being poorly represented, I'm left bemused. They have the power once they're popular. People didn't go because they like or wanted to support Opus, they went for the works of the 2 artists and would happily go to either artist's next show, based on the reactions I've read to the art.

Opus underground what a total bunch of wa***rs, by sputnikeye on May 31, 2008 7:40:47 GMT 1, It just sounds a bit dodgy when galleries start holding back stock prints for friends and then selling them on ebay, limit the supply and increase the demand. The galleries are shooting themselves in the foot as this is bad PR especially on a site like this where the majority are buyers and when galleries are not in short supply.
