$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by snakes on May 10, 2008 21:37:30 GMT 1, It would be cheaper to buy the blek book on ebay!
Ps. $450 is astronomical, how much are they insuring it for to put shipping at that price?

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by gilsteph on May 10, 2008 21:40:08 GMT 1, Unless the book weighs several tonnes or VERY valuable, they are having a laugh!
I received a large painting from the US for just over $100!

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by zclgt on May 10, 2008 21:43:46 GMT 1, Seems really excessive. Most I've paid is $170 for a flat packed print. Try out the fedex rate calculator for some rough estimates:

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by Heavyconsumer on May 10, 2008 21:50:33 GMT 1, I was just billed $120 for a glazed, framed original of reasonable size to be shipped worldwide from CA, USA. So that's an absolute pi$$take.

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by Photoxtc on May 10, 2008 23:19:34 GMT 1, here's a good example, when I ship stuff to the UK from California it's cost me about $80 USD and that's for the BRP type of huge bomb proof tubes that weigh a ton...
so $450. is a fucking crime... my best advice it to have them pack it and you have your own courier pick it up and ship it for you... I have done this many times with galleries and it can save you a small fortune...

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by Harveyn on May 10, 2008 23:53:03 GMT 1, It cost me $450 to get a Faile NYC box delivered from the USA. Was not happy at the time as the box was only $2500. Does not really bother me now.... ;D ;D ;D

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by Heavyconsumer on May 11, 2008 8:59:42 GMT 1, I still think they're taking the p1ss! There's no way in hell they're paying more than half that for a USPS priority service. Another example, I just had a stretched canvas shipped from Copro Nason for under $100 using the most expensive insured service USPS offer, their standard international shipping rate was only $35, but that wasn't express. I would take Phototoxtc's advice, I'm sure you'll save at least a 3 figure sum, if you care that is.

$450 FOR SHIPPING !!!!, by Heavyconsumer on May 11, 2008 9:02:19 GMT 1, Many galleries for that type of product will even put the stretcher bars and the canvas in the tube and send it that way which may be cheaper because of dimensions if it's very large, but then you'll have a small charge when it arrives for getting it stretched, but that's cheap as chips. Maybe they'll hook you up that way. The only other reason could be because it's a very high value insurance. Is it very valuable?
